Neither have been reported missing? That's not a good look on the part of the parents. Usually it points to the parents being involved somehow.

On Wednesday afternoon, Lt. Mike Bigwood announced the two girls who were found dead on Tuesday in a Lauderhill canal were sisters 9-year-old Destiny and 7-year-old Daysha.

Bigwood said the girls’ mother is Tinessa Hogan, 36, and she was last seen with the girls about 5 p.m. on Monday. The girls’ mother was a person of interest, hasn’t been questioned, arrested, or charged, Bigwood said.

“They are from the specific area where they were located,” Bigwood said about where the girls and the mother lived together.

Detectives have classified the case as “two suspicious deaths.” Bigwood said the girls’ father, Darren Hogan, 42, had been estranged from the family for years. He also said relatives live outside of Broward County.

“Please if you know the family, if you know the children, if you are familiar with the relationship, if you are familiar with any churches or organizations that the family may be a part of, please call us,” Bigwood said. “We desperately need to know what these relationships are.”

Bigwood said detectives are aware of neighbors’ reports that there was a woman swimming in the canal who was holding a Bible and asking people if they wanted to be baptized. Lauderhill Police Chief Constance Stanley said the community is not in danger.

Sisters found dead in Florida canal after mother tried to ‘baptize’ them

    https://nypost.com/2021/06/23/florid...dead-in-canal/

Two young sisters were identified as the children found in a Florida canal, and their mother has been named a person of interest in connection with the tragedy.

Destiny and Daysha Hogan, ages 9 and 7, were last seen swimming in the Lauderhill canal Monday, police said at a Wednesday evening press conference.

The sisters’ mother, Tinessa Hogan, was named as a person of interest, after she never reported the children’s disappearance, authorities revealed.

Hogan was seen Monday at the canal swimming with her daughters. She was carrying a Bible and asked a neighbor if she could baptize her children, police said.

The neighbor declined and ushered her children inside.

“I was more concerned for her,” Marie Williams told the Herald. “I should have been more cautious.”

The bizarre conversation happened around the same time Destiny and Daysha were last seen, police said.

Hogan, 36, has not been arrested but was contacted by police in connection with the suspicious deaths.

“She is not in the community right now, and we’re not at liberty to say where she is,” Lauderhill Police Lt. Mike Bigwood said, who added the girl’s father is not in the family picture.

The girl’s bodies were recovered Tuesday after police reportedly received disturbing 911 calls.

“I need you guys to come … to see if there is a little girl’s body in the water,” one caller said. “I can’t tell if it’s a mannequin head, I mean a mannequin body or a body that’s been in the water for some days.”

The first girl was found wearing jean shorts and a gray T-shirt that read “Dance” in pink lettering, WPLG reported.

A second juvenile girl was discovered floating in the same waters at just before 9 p.m., the reports said.

Destiny and Daysha’s cause of death has not yet been determined, according to police, who asked for the public’s help making sense of the case.

“We’re making a plea to the public and specifically the community of central Lauderhill, to please, if you know the family, if you know the children, if you’re familiar with the relationship, if you’re familiar with any churches, organizations that the family may be a part of, please call us,” Bigwood said.

“We desperately need to know what these relationships are and put some context to how this may have happened.”

Florida mom of 2 daughters found dead in canal is arrested; police said she’d offered to baptize neighborhood kids in canal

    https://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...7ka-story.html

A mother whose two daughters were found dead in a canal in South Florida has been arrested, authorities said.

Tinessa Hogan was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder, Lauderhill Police said, according to NBC 6 South Florida.

The charges come three weeks after 9-year-old Destiny Hogan and 7-year-old Daysha Hogan were found dead on June 22 in a canal in Lauderhill near their home.

Police have said Hogan volunteered to baptize children in the canal the day before her daughters’ bodies were found in it, according to others in the neighborhood.

The woman had also reportedly gotten hospital attention due to erratic behavior, NBC 6 South Florida reported.

Hogan, 36, was already in custody before the charges against her came down. She was considered a potential person of interest following her daughters’ deaths.

Lauderhill is located about 30 miles north of Miami, and about 6 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale.

I can't find anything further on this case since she was charged in 2021. I wonder if she's competent to stand trial?
