A Minnesota woman who was reportedly asked not to attend her ex-boyfriend's funeral showed up in an SUV and, according to witnesses, tried 'to run people over' at the man's graveside ceremony.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Blair Whitten visited Fargo, N.D.'s, Riverside Cemetery Saturday afternoon despite a request from the dead man's family that she stay clear of the funeral. Whitten had allegedly made inappropriate remarks about the deceased on social media at the time of his death.
One witness said he approached Whitten's vehicle after the burial and asked that she leave. Instead, the 28-year-old allegedly hit the gas, forcing him to dodge the accelerating SUV. The dead man's dad said he saw Whitten driving through the cemetery at a high rate of speed. Several witnesses flagged down police officers to report that a vehicle was recklessly driving over gravesites 'trying to run people over,' according to court documents.
Whitten reportedly told police that when funeral attendees approached her SUV, she felt she was in danger and pulled away, careful not to hit anyone.
'Multiple complainants reported Whitten was driving her vehicle, inside the cemetery, in a manner with extreme indifference for human life which created substantial risk of serious bodily injury to persons in the cemetery,' police spokesperson Jessica Schindeldecker said, according to local outlet KVRR.
Police detained the suspect on cemetery grounds. She is accused of misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
