A 35-year-old California father killed while camping with his two young daughters has been identified as an avid outdoorsman who was known as a brilliant chemist.
Investigators believe that the girls were in the tent with Tristan Beaudette when he was shot in the upper chest shortly before 5 a.m. on Friday in Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas.

If it was in the middle of the night and he was shot in the head, wouldn't someone had to have gone into the tent and shot him? This almost sounds like a hit.

I don't think a hit, but I do think some random guy is in the area who decided to kill somebody. Maybe it was an attempted robbery
I don't know how I missed this! Malibu State Park isn't a huge secluded area. I mean, it's wilderness, but it's not like it's out in the middle of nowhere. How bizarre! So sad for those kids!

Prosecutors say a 35-year-old father who was fatally shot while camping with his daughters in June was killed by the same man who opened fire on a number of unsuspecting campers and motorists in the past few years.
Tristan Beaudette was shot once in the head on June 22 as he slept in a tent with his 2- and 4-year-old daughters at the Malibu Creek State Park in California. Investigators looking into the case then connected the homicide with a series of shootings in the park dating to November 2016.
On Monday, prosecutors charged a suspect of carrying out those shootings. Anthony Rauda, 42, was charged Monday with one count of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and five counts of second-degree burglary, the LA County District Attorney's Office said.

MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- The family of the man shot and killed while camping with his daughters at Malibu Creek State Park has filed a lawsuit against the multiple agencies, and the suspect in the killing.
Tristan Beaudette was shot while sleeping in his tent with his daughters last June. In the lawsuit, Beaudette's family alleges the public was not warned about a series of unsolved shootings in the park prior to his death.
The suspect, Anthony Rouda, is awaiting trial. Rauda is accused of opening fire on innocent campers or motorists since November 2016, when he allegedly wounded a man who was sleeping in a hammock in the Malibu State Park area. Less than a week later, he allegedly shot a gun into the sleeping area of a vehicle.
