Tragically and suddenly, in the early hours of Sunday, August 20, 2017, my longtime friend Melissa passed away. She was one of my first friends when I moved to a new city at the age of 8. We have many wonderful years of memories and friendship. I would like to help her family by raising money to ease the burden of the funeral costs. She was only 39 and leaves behind her mother, Cindy, her father, Rich, her husband, Kevin, and their 11-year-old daughter Michelle. Melissa loved her family and her two big dogs. She was active in her daughter’s school and sports. She loved watching football and baseball every weekend. We will respect the family’s request for privacy regarding details at this time. Because this was so sudden, the family does not have extra money set aside for something like this. Anything would be appreciated and would help to ease the cost. If all you can give is prayers, we will gladly accept them and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. on September 9, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Santa Clarita, CA.

She wrote this in 2015:
Thanks, everyone! Sorry, my phone died. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers! Everything's pretty much the same. I asked about when he might think I could get off of chemo, and he said I can't, because apparently the tumor isn't going anywhere, and the chemo is keeping it stable. He said they still need more testing on the polio virus. People have died from the treatment. They still have some more research and testing before he would even consider it.
A post written by her husband to the Counting Crows fan page:
Hello Counting Crows fans. I write to you from my wife's account announcing the passing of one of Counting Crow's biggest fans. Melissa Duhe attended a total of 37 CC shows on the west coast, 22 I attended with her. I have so many fond memories of waiting in lines, making so many friends along the way. I feel my wife identified with Adam because she shared so many of the same mental illness struggles as he did. She died at the age of 39 in her sleep of natural causes. I cry every time I hear a CC song on the radio (which isn't often enough) I cry, and am currently re-reading Henderson the Rain King by Saul Bellow. Thank you for taking the time to read this as it was very therapeutic to write!
Greetings Olivia, et al.
I was Melissa's husband. I am sorry I did not see this before today. Unfortunately Melissa suffered from depression and abused many prescription drugs including opioids and benzodiazepines, among others. Her mom and myself tried to get her help many times, but as the old adage goes, ultimately she has to want to get help.
Her death was accidental (although some might think it was long-term self harm) but she had no intentions of killing herself. The Dr. who performed the autopsy said Hypertrophic Heart Disease could be genetic, could be due to the drug abuse or it could have been due to the fact that she was born 3 mo early at 2lbs 13oz. We will never know for sure.
Olivia, I'm sorry I do not know you. I assume you went to grammar or high school with Melissa. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at kevinduhe @ gmail dot.com (sorry just trying to throw off the spammers)
