It's been more than a year since a Madison County man left for a Saturday night out with friends and was never seen again.
Twenty-four-year-old Jacob Tipton left the Berea home he shared with his younger brother to meet up with friends on April 23, 2016. He has not been heard from since.
?A year later there are no answers. We never had any answers. We never had any leads,? said Tonja Grant, Tipton's mother. ?His vehicle had been found abandoned and there was no trace of Jacob.?
Tipton's GMC Envoy was discovered in a Hart County cemetery more than two hours away.
?He doesn't have any family or friends there. It's heartbreaking,? said Grant.
Grant believes that a critical delay in gathering evidence from the vehicle and poor communication between different agencies involved in the investigation caused the case to go cold. Grant told LEX 18 that the car sat for weeks in Hart County before being towed to a used car lot where it was reportedly set to be sold before investigators realized it was part of a missing person case.
?Police didn't even know where the vehicle was. Five weeks later, they get the vehicle and search through it. Well, obviously there isn't any evidence because everybody and his brother has been through the vehicle. I went through the vehicle,? said Grant.
She told LEX 18 she remembers her son as a caring family man.
?He was very loving. Very charismatic. Had a great smile. Very family oriented,? she said.
As the mystery around his disappearance grows, Grant tells us she fears the worst.
?Some of the family has hope that they'll find Jacob. I don't have any hope that I'm going to find Jacob alive. Jacob was always calling me. So, for him to just drop off the face of the earth with no contact, doesn?t give a person much hope. After a year now, I don?t have any hope that I'm even going to find his body,? she told LEX 18.
Berea Police say there are still no solid leads on the case, but that it is still an open investigation.
