CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - Police are searching for a pair of missing 13-year-old girls near Delphi.

Liberty "Libby" German and Abigail "Abby" Williams were last seen around 1 p.m. Monday near an abandoned railroad bridge known as the "Monon High Bridge" just outside of Delphi. The girls did not arrive at a predetermined location to meet a family member later Monday afternoon.

Family members notified police after searching the immediate area and not finding the girls later Monday afternoon. Deputies were informed of the missing teenagers around 5:30 p.m.

Libby is described as 5'4" with a heavy build, shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a tie-dyed shirt that is fringed at the bottom, gray sweatpants with unknown black lettering and black Nike shoes.

Abby is 5'4" with a small build, medium-length blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt with a burgundy t-shirt underneath and blue jeans.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time and have no information that would lead them to believe the girls are in any danger other than being exposed to the elements outdoors.

The sheriff's department says they looked into issuing an AMBER Alert for the teenagers, but were told the event does not meet the state's criteria to issue such an alert.

lead police to the girls, call 911 or the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 765-564-2413 and choose option #1.

Oh damn, that's so fucked up. I was hoping they just lost track of time & were going to turn up for dinner. It wasn't until after I posted that I realised they hadn't even been missing 24hrs yet (I have completely lost my ability to judge timezones). I had a bad feeling about this one though, mostly because of the way people described the girls & the community/area in general - it sounded a little like our town & because our young teens go walking on our semi-isolated nature trails, it hit home for me.

Even if it was an accident, this is fucking awful. From what people were saying though, the bridge sounded like the only potential hazard on the local trail. If they fell they should've been found almost immediately because the search began in daylight & everyone knew they were last seen at the bridge.

In the comments on one article last night, police called of the search after night fell & locals were meeting to go out with torches so I hope to fuck it wasn't family or friends who had to find them like that

Also in the article comments, some people were concerned immediately because of other recently missing teens in the area (larger nearby town I think). I spent some time trying to work out who they were talking about & was going to make a thread for a couple of them too last night but didn't get around to it. I don't necessarily think they're connected, but at least 2 of them, an 18 yr old from late last year & a 14 yr old who went missing 4Feb, are of real concern. There's also a 16 yr old who is suspected to have left voluntarily with a 40yr old man in Jan. Police support the family concern for the 18yr old, but the 16 &14 yr olds are being treated as runaways. I haven't found anything but a pic & first name for the 16yr old, but there are a lot of family posts on fb for the 14yr old & I am worried for her. I'll find the names & get them posted a bit later - unless someone else has some time on their hands & wants to trawl article comments to find them.

I feel like they are being evasive. If there was someone on the large to worry about, they would say so. That leads me to think it was only the girls involved.

The news sites were recently updated to confirm that the bodies found are the girls.

The Delphi Community Schools Corporation sent home a letter with students on Tuesday that said the bodies found were two of their missing middle school students.

"It is with heavy hearts that the school corporation day comes to an end. It is our understanding that the two bodies found today were those of our two missing Delphi Community Middle School students."

The letter also said that counselors and local pastors will be available to all students and staff while they deal with the tragic situation.

The Delphi United Methodist Church will hold a vigil tonight at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1796 US-421, Delphi, IN 46923.

The evasive language could also be down to the fact they called the search off when it got dark because they assumed the girls weren't in any real danger -
& now they realise they fucked up big time & there's going to be outrage at the decision, especially if either of the girls didn't die immediately

Hmm... interesting theory.

Looks like the yellow is a road and I screen grabbed this image of the trail and it includes the bridge. We have to line it up to the coordinates.

I dunno, I'm not getting that vibe this time. I think an accident is a good possibility. There were comments describing the bridge as being in a dangerous state of disrepair with gaps & no railings, despite being a part of the trail.

People are also speculating that there are 3 figures in the background of the last pic the girls took. Personally I think they're just trees in shadow but someone was "nice" enough to post this to a family member's (possibly Liberty's mum's) fb page

I was going to say wouldn't the current have at least put them both on the same side of the bridge...then I saw how close the one body was to the bridge and wondered if it could have gotten snagged on a branch immediately after going off the bridge, while the other one didn't and floated downstream.

This was my thought too. If they both jumped off the left of the bridge, one could have gotten snagged straight away and the other floated under it, to the right.

Or they could have jumped from opposite sides of the bridge.

An article on this Indiana child killer/sex offender was linked in comments on an article about Liberty & Abigail. He was released earlier this month & has lived in Gary in the past. No idea were he is now & I think his earlier victims were boys so hopefully it's completely irrelevant.

The way locals are talking, it really sounds like someone did this to them. It could be that searchers have misinterpreted what they found, but at this time the community appears to believe they were attacked
