I have had my share. Sorta dating a guy (I say sorta) because almost everyday, we break up. Met on POF, (plenty of f_ckups!) I swear it is the chum left over from the fishies....
So what options do I have?
Im too old to do the bar thing! Move maybe? NY is disastrous for dating...
You can stick with it and sift through the madness, or start a new hobby where you are meeting a new group of peoples. I never tried eharmony or match, I would think that those people are a little more inclined to be open to relationships, even though I am sure there are still duds on there. POF, OKC and that swipe right or left app are definitely hook up apps though. Fo sho.
First of all let me say that I met my husband online 12 years ago, we were just friends for 7 of those years. We met on a forum and not a dating site. No regrets whatsoever with him. He was who he said he was. He isn't a creep or any of those other things people fear about meeting others online.
However I do have a horror story. Another person I met on the same forum as my now husband ended up being a totally different person online than they ended up being in real life. This dude lived up north and came to visit me a few times over the course of 2 years before deciding to move down to my state. Oh, my fucking god. It was like he put on a really good show while visiting and while chatting online. When he got here he had like 10k in savings and decided he was going to take some time off from work and just live on that for awhile. Yeah, he never got a job. Blew that savings on video games, alcohol and cigarettes. He blew through it in just over 2 months. So I told him he had to get a fucking job and that it was a mistake for me to even let him in my house without one. He was only here 2 months before I kicked him out. Here are a few other things that made me get rid of him. He NEVER did his laundry in two months. He wore the same outfit for a week straight. He DID NOT bathe but TWICE in two months. He'd eat nothing but hot pockets. He hated my family and friends, never wanted me to hang out with them (I didn't listen. I did whatever the fuck I wanted.) Just turned out to be a complete waste of a person. Thankfully I had an extra bedroom that I could throw him in. He would stay in there for days and I'd never see him. Worst decision of my life was agreeing to let him move in. I thought after two years though that I knew him well enough. Wrong.
My husband is lucky I was able to trust any internet person after that asshole.
I actually met the Mr on match but we were both looking for the same thing and after getting to know each other in reality-land we found out or lives had pretty much run the same routes and we'd grown up in the same places just never met. But before meeting him, I heard from every on-line loser that signed on to match. It is a very scary world out there and I'm glad I'm at the place in life I am..I'm too old for that shit.

I kinda gagged a bit on the no laundry/shower (BLEH.)
I tried the EHarmony and Match apps and got not one hit. It was odd.
I have had a few dates from the free sites and yes, it was truly hook up on their end. Or nut jobs.
I am gonna be 35. and am still single...
I say be patient, and picky. Don't waste time getting to know people you know you don't have much in common with or any interest in their interests and vice versa. Only accept dates from people that are outwardly looking for a relationship or at least the same future relationship type goals.
If you think about it, there are a katrillion members on mds, right? Yet I am sure you only 'vibe' with a few of them, most are randoms. It's going to be the same online as irl. Most are not for the picking.
Join a club, volunteer, if you're into God (or Kanye) find a singles group for adults, get out and meet people in your area. Take a Continuing Education class or a night class at a community college . Even if you don't meet 'Mr Better Than Getting Another Cat' you'll still have a blast. People are drawn to people who are living their lives :)
(and yes NY can be a dating nightmare..but it can happen)

That is my favorite one from Farmer's Only. I like the animals talking.
This one is goofy too. The chicks in the bar singing are awesome.
I met my husband on match. Had to sift through a bunch of assholes. But really it was kinda fun dating different people.
I love the Christian singles ones. That's where I'd be going if I had no soul and was after some $$$$

I once signed up for one, got pretty overwhelmed with it, deleted it within the same day.
I love reading the myspace love stories! those are the cutiestttttt
Due to long work hours and kids, the only opportunity I had was to come online to look for a man. Well, https://singlehearts.org/best-bdsm-dating-sites/ was a good website overall for me. I matched a good looking guy, and we connected almost immediately. The sad part is I was defrauded by this guy and he wasn't who he said he was at all, I have been so embarrassed to talk about this to anyone. I didn't get any help till I did... Anyway I was able to recover my funds using Global Elite Recovery and their skilled investigators, you can google them if you have been a victim of love fraud.
You are talking to a woman who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom and chuckled at catastrophe.
