we were pulled over in MS and the cop kept spewing shit ( at a bunch of white girls) about being a dry county and we better not be drinkin. Well the back passengers were and one goes " well its a good thing crack is dry." We almost killed her.

he rolled his eyes and let us go. Any black person would have been arrested and maybe beaten.

I don't feel like researching, but Ron, I do believe Mississippi is the poorest state and the state with the worst education system. It's scary down there. I only ventured away from Biloxi/Gulfport a handful if times, and they were all scary.

Right. A lot of people keep those things up to remind and show people of their history and past injustices. Just like Louisiana keeps all those old plantations up with the slave quarters. And the North that has the underground railroads. They are suppose to be creepy to look at. Reminds people.

If anybody goes to MS, go down Hwy 61. Lots of history down that highway. If you are going North up highway 61...there comes a part where there is nothing but fields for miles and miles. All of a sudden, it opens up into the biggest plot of casinos you have ever seen (except in Vegas) Every year when I travel there....that little plot of fields gets bigger and bigger with business surrounding the casinos. It is the most amazing site to see at night.

Where in TN were you? Middle TN? Western TN? Cuz where I was, people are assholes. Back stabbing, racist, ignorant assholes.

Truly, my experiences in the south were horrible. I went there thinking that I would have a new life. Instead, I got harassed and made fun of until I left. I'm just a fucking Yankee, or an outlander. I'm a heathen from California. My husband grew up in the south but... He's not white and he lost his accent, so he's not welcome anymore. The only way I would move there agin is if I could hole myself up in the Smoky mountains and never come back down. You know, like Rocky Top. "Once two strangers climbed ole Rocky Top, looking for a moonshine still. Strangers ain't come back from Rocky Top, reckon they never will." Except without the moonshiners killing me.

I hate it because I am surrounded by racist, dirty, toothless, uneducated, bible thumping hippocrates. Oh, and it is hot as hell.

Chattanooga and Knoxville. We were just there for a day (I never lived anywhere besides NJ) but after the Mississippi experience, the people there seemed spectacular.

This is one reason why i hate the south.

    Please post yours.

Maybe because you were just there for the day? I lived in Knoxville for over a year. They couldn't push me out fast enough. I mean, I couldn't get out fast enough for them. I mean... In all seriousness, I felt very unwelcome as soon as people found out I was from Ca.

Oregon is basically the south. you're right.

Add alaska and arizona to that list as well.
And affirmative action is a very nice term for racial discrimination against better-qualified white people in jobs, employment, promotions and scholarships, and college admittance.

Once I had a girl on Rocky Top. One bear the other half cat. Wild as a mink but sweet as a soda pop. I still dream about that.

Rocky Top you'll always be, home sweet home to me. Good ole Rocky Top. Rocky Top, Tennessee. Rocky Top, Tennessee.

For the record, I also have a short list of what I loved about the South. But that isn't what this thread is about.

See above comment. This makes the short list.

    Is West Virginia "the south"?

I was in a car driving back from SC and got pulled over. I was sleeping through the entire thing. I woke up to a ticket for not having a seatbelt on.

    ....is that even legal?

Wait, were you driving and sleeping? But yes, in most states, everyone has to have a seatbelt on.
