(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Former television writer Ted Shuttleworth was arrested Saturday for punching a poodle in the face so hard that it died of a brain injury, police said.
New York Post reported that the former "NYPD Blue" writer could face up to a year in prison for punching his dog on May 29.
Shuttleworth, 51, allegedly attacked his pet because he was angry with it. The dog weighed about four pounds and sustained a traumatic brain injury after the attack, according to a spokesman for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Shuttleworth was arrested Saturday at his home in Queens. His wife tells the Post that the dog's death was a "horrible accident."
