I don't know what led to the DNA test, but for me, there were several things. The age-regression photo of Lyle resembled Trevor a little bit. Lyle apparently had a Canadian accent and had traveled to the US South (don't know if they meant southwest or southeast). Trevor was a Canadian truck driver who drove a route from Canada to the US southwest. Trevor disappeared a few months before Lyle was found. So enough little clues that it was worth looking into.
