I am in Portland, Oregon and they have made it possible for the Farmers Market to accept EBT food stamp cards.  I imagine that it is also helping the smaller farms make money along with better food for the recipients.  :-)

    That's awesome.

    Cheers, fellow Portlander!  :2wave:

Oh, and I go to college and have a good job and have never had any public assistance of any kind.
My debt is totally under control and reasonable.
My parents are FAR from wealthy and haven't given me a dime since I moved out after high school.
    It can be done.

Me too. But I had a friend who came from dirt poverty and got hit on his motorcycle by an uninsured drunk driver his second year of college. So he went on government aid.

I also know people who got out of college and got bills for $60,000 the same day as they graduated.

Oh, and I just got a job counting the vast number of 'people experiencing homelessness'.
The idea that government aid is for lazy pussies is dumb and wrong. What's the point of a government but to help out its citizens?

    Oh, for sure!
It's just the lazy pussies-- who take advantage of a government that's WILLING to help them-- that make me see red.

There is nothing like getting hit up in Safeway by a, "Psst, Hey I'll buy your food on my card for .50 cents on the dollar"  And they thought that would end when they got rid of the paper food stamps?  He was young, early 20's and pretty darn healthy looking.  (I couldn't do it, I was to chicken.)
