I don't want you to die, but a doctor won't let you die if you are an organ donor. I say this because my mom was blessed enough to get a lung transplant 2 years ago. I just don't want people to be scared off from putting organ donor on their drivers license. So many people are waiting
for a new organ and 17 people die waiting each day. Doctors will try to save you no matter what and you being an organ donor won't change their efforts. Thank you for being an donor. It is so important.

My licence says Im an organ donor, but I wanna specify that I'd like to keep my eyes. They could have anything else they want but I'd like my eyes to stay in my head... its the whole "windows to the soul thing" I think that there's a retinal scan to get into the afterlife or something - hahaha.

Well obviously they're not going to let you die, they took an oath. Anyway, your parents or significant other (i think them anyway, not just fam) have the right not to let you donate your organs. I'm a donor & my mother already said if she out lives me she won't let them have them. There's of course ways to get around that. Doctors themselves can deny donating your organs also. Blah Blah Blah.
When I did my donor card years ago, I specified no eyes or skin and I think I put liver too. I was young then and partied a bit....well I thought best not to give what I thought would have been a messed up liver. It was and is probably fine so I should change my card I suppose. I think now I would say any tissue or organ, but eyes limited to the cornea and not the whole body for research. Dont really want to end up in the dirt for them to learn decomp and forensics, or have students using me as their prop for their school year, ya know.
I'm really impressed when someone is an organ donor, it is a huge gift, the ultimate gift to so many people. It's often the recipients' last chance at life or even to have a better quality of life. (for ex, corneal transplant allowing a blind person to regain their sight!)
'Danielle gave right up to her last breathe' I believe her sister said. That says a lot about Danielles character.
I hope if I ever need an organ, there are people out there as generous as Danielle was.

Thank you guys for being donors. The wait for my mom was very long and scary.
I know that on my donor card I asked them not to take my eyes.
They can take anything of mine worth taking when I die. I'll probably be cremated anyways so theres no need to be greedy.

Why is it greedy to want to keep your OWN organs after you die? I don't find that in the least bit greedy. Hell, a hundred years ago, it would have been absurd for someone to fill out a form saying "why yes, please harvest my corpse!" I find it incredibly rude of at the DMV when they get on your ass for not checking off that you'll be a donor. It's like "Yeah, it's so completely unsafe to drive nowadays, so just let us have your organs when you get killed out there on the road. Thaaaanks."
Well sorry. Mine get buried or placed in a mausoleum *wishes* with me. The way I see it, you can't screen the people who will be the recipient of your organs..so no thanks. I don't want some abusive alcoholic getting my liver and continuing their miserable existence. Nu uh.
And yes, they do take your eyes. A girl I went to HS with died on her way to graduation practice. I heard they took her eyes because she was an organ donor, but they placed cotton in there so it wouldn't look bad. (or so the story goes..)
hahaha I told the guy who done my scan I would leave my kidneys on my donor card, he had mentioned that they were big and "anyone would be well pleased to have those"

Mine syas the same thing! I wrote on my license "No eyes"! I think it would be just too weird to have other people looking into my former eyes.
