The funny thing is is that these are the kind of insane requests I get for some projects yet nobody wants to pay over $20 for artwork unless they are a corporation.

Honestly, it's a joke. I do illustration too. The last 3 jobs I quoted on were for 2 t shirt companies needing illustrations for the front of the T's. I quoted $150 per design (keep in mind I don't get royalties) so basically they have to sell 5 shirts to break even. No email back. Nothing.
I just quoted on 2 illustrations for a company mailer $150 for both. Full colour, etc. No call back, nothing.
At $150 i'm basically whoring myself but I tried to see if they'd jump at that but no.
They've seen my website. They're the ones emailing me back saying "WOW! AWESOME WORK! CAN YOU DO THIS FOR US? BLAH BLAH BLAH!"
Besides they can get some hack out of high school, promise him it'll give him a lot of exposure and that it's great for his portfolio, and they basically get the work done for free. Or they just use Stock Art.
