A 21-year-old man of Barstow died from major injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Trona Road Monday morning, February 12.

CHP said 21-year-old Benjamin Alan Jordan of Barstow was driving a 2007 Honda Accord northbound on Trona Road, south of Searles Station Road when the crash occurred.

Jordan was reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to navigate a left curve, causing the right-side tires of the Honda to veer onto the dirt shoulder. He then tried to maneuver the vehicle abruptly to the left but lost control. The Honda traveled across the dirt shoulder on the west side, crashed into a raised dirt barrier, and then launched into the air. It collided with a rocky slope of a descending hillside before finally coming to a stop on its wheels.

Jordan had to be airlifted by a Mercy Air helicopter to Antelope Valley Hospital due to major blunt force trauma to his body and head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:13 a.m.

According to CHP, Jordan was wearing a seatbelt, and both the front and side curtain airbags of the Honda were deployed, at the time of the crash.

There were no known witnesses to the incident, CHP said, describing the collision as an extremely rural location.

The CHP Mojave Area officers are urging the public to help locate any witnesses to the crash. Any information can be directed to the CHP's Bishop Dispatch Center at (760) 872-5900.
