Daniel J. "Dan" Schmalzried, 36, of McPherson passed away at noon Monday, July 20, 2015 at his home.


Daniel was born in Ransom, Kansas, on July 8, 1979, a son of Linda K. (Doris) Schmalzried and Larry J. Schmalzried.

Dan attended Washington grade school, McPherson Middle School, and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson in 1998.

Dan was a machinist and worked for Wear Technology in McPherson.

Dan enjoyed sports, especially golf, football and baseball, working with wood, playing video games, collecting movies and guns, paint balling, and spending time with his family and Hunter, his canine companion.

Dan is survived by his daughter, Cayla Marie Smith, of Wichita; his adopted daughter, Shannon; his mother, Linda Schmalzried, of McPherson; his father, Larry Schmalzried, of Dighton; his brother, Greg Schmalzried and his wife Sarah, of Canton; his sissy, Lisa Gamber and her husband Matthew, of Hutchinson; his sister-in-law, Jackie Carlson and her husband Todd, of McPherson; his nephews and nieces, Nathaniel Schmalzried, Brittany Gamber, Amanda Schmalzried, and Cody Schmalzried; other relatives and a host of friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leo and Nellie Doris; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Leona Schmalzried; and his brother, Darren L. Schmalzried.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.


Graveside service and burial will be held at Andover Lutheran Church Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 with Pastor H. Dick Reynolds, Jr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Daniel J. Schmalzried Memorial fund and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid Street, McPherson, Kansas 67460.
