A Kingston family is grieving the death of a young man. He died last weekend from a suspected drug overdose — and another man came close to death. Police suspect the drugs were laced with unknown substances, including fentanyl, without the user's knowledge. Newswatch's Nikki Jhutti reports.

"He was a beautiful, beautiful human being…"

It's the news no parent wants to hear… On Saturday – Susan Deuchars' ((DU-CARS)) son Devon passed away from a suspected drug overdose… He was found by emergency personnel around 8pm with no vital signs… Deuchars was transported to hospital where he later died…

"Had so much love and compassion for everybody else except for himself."

Police are still investigating Deuchars' death but believe the young man may have been using heroin and a white powdery substance… possibly cocaine…the night he died… Deuchars wasn't the only suspected overdose on Saturday… About an hour and half later — paramedics were called to a Curtis Crescent residence and found a 28-year old man in medical distress… In that case the man was revived using Naloxone – a drug that temporarily reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

The two incidents have prompted police to sound the alarm about some dangerous drugs… specifically heroin… on Kingston streets…. that may be laced with other drugs.

"We're not sure what the makeup is or what's in it – it's suspected Fentanyl but we're not sure. We want to make sure that everybody's safe and we don't want anybody else to succumb to this either."

Fentanyl is a highly addictive pain killer… It's about a hundred times more powerful than heroin and about 2-hundred times more potent than morphine… Police say when those drugs are laced with substances like Fentanyl – it increases the chances of an overdose.

That's Alex Gauthier… Deuchars' was his cousin… He says he hopes others will pay attention to the police warning…

"There's help and I hope that this is enough of a warning to maybe send people in the direction of help."

Those close to Devon have started a Go Fund Me Page… The money will not only be used to help with funeral arrangements but the family also plans to donate some to mental health services…

And while the police warning wasn't able to save Deuchars – his family hopes others will hear the message…
