A Mandeville woman last seen Friday in Mid-City was found dead Sunday (March 27) evening in the Gentilly neighborhood, New Orleans police said.

NOPD responded to a call about an unclassified death in the 2500 block of Elysian Fields Avenue at 5:02 p.m., New Orleans Police Department spokesman Aaron Looney said. Upon arrival, authorities found Haley Saltaformaggio, 31, unresponsive in her locked vehicle in a parking lot. She suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, NOPD said. Police said a handgun was found in the front seat near her.

Police said the cause of death has not been confirmed by the coroner's office. No further information is available at this time.

Police said earlier on Sunday that she was last seen in Mid-City, by Carrolton Avenue and Canal Street at 6: 15 p.m. Friday. She came into town that day to visit friends. The first report about her disappearance placed her in the French Quarter around 4 p.m.
