Heather LeAnne Knight McCamy, 40, of Anchorage, passed away on January 27, 2015.
Heather was born in Salem, Oregon on September 16, 1974 where she helped her mother run a small candy and gift shop in Pringle Park. She has her tricycle handy for visits to the other shops in the complex. Later she lived in north Idaho and enjoyed Coeur d'Alene Lake and the Spokane River, and many friends in Post Falls, Idaho. She lived in southeast Portland while attending junior and senior high school, graduating in 1992. Next came theMidwest and Illinois State University where Heather graduated in 1997. Heather started
working at The Mole Hole gift shop in Bloomington, IL at age 15 where she fell in love with
retail. She received her college degree in English but pursued a career in retail management. She has a long history throughout Alaska, residing in Juneau from 1998-2000 where she worked at Lamont's and Gottschalk's Department Stores; Ketchickan from 2000-2002; Anchorage from 2002-2005 where she was a Gottschalk's department manager; Ketchican from 2005-2007 where she loved working for EC Phillips in the
commercial fishing industry; Juneau from 2007-2009 where she was Gottschalk's Department Store District Manager; and Anchorage since 2010 as the Assistant Store Manager at Sears.
Heather has been affiliated with the Presbyterian Church Since 1979.
Locally, Heather has done some volunteer work with Alaska Junior Theatre, Clare House,
homeless shelters, the Salvation Army angel tree program, and the humane society.
Heather and her daughter, Mollie, rescued a Chihuahua dog, Dixie, whom they have
enjoyed as a part of their family.
Besides enjoying her work in the retail industry, Heather enjoyed reading, movies, walking
the dog, crafts, doing things with Mollie and helping with school activities. Heather holds
season tickets for the local symphony, which she and Mollie enjoyed together. Music and
theater helped relieve her struggles with depression. She was diagnoses in 2002 with
PTSD and more recently with Bi-Polar Disorder.
Heather is survived by her daughter, Mollie LeAnne McCamy, age 12, a student at Lumen
Christi High School; her mother, Pamela LeeAnn Tanora and stepfather, Milton Tanora, all
of Anchorage; father, Lawrence Knight (Andy) of Beaverton, OR; brother, Barrett Knight
(Michele) of Dundee, OR; niece Mallory Knight of Dundee, OR; paternal grandmother,
oris Cox of Albany, OR; as well as aunts and uncles located throughout the Willamette
Valley in Oregon.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 3:00 at Trinity Presbyterian
Church, 12310 Lorraine St. (off Huffman.) Reverend Bill Barlow of Oregon will officiate
with the assistance of Reverend Mark Klohe.
