Shreveport Police detectives have released the name of a man who was killed following an overnight shooting in east Shreveport Tuesday. Leandis Henix 27, of Shreveport, was shot and killed just before 1:00 a.m. on March 3, 2015, following a shooting in the 800 block of Kimbrough Street.

Upon arrival at the home, authorities discovered Henix had been fatally shot inside the home, possibly at the hands of an individual that was inside the residence. Preliminary information gathered at the scene suggests Henix, accompanied by another masked man, entered the home, with Henix reportedly being armed with a semi-automatic rifle. Authorities believe the shooter, 21 year old Austin Holstead, upon discovery of the intruders, armed himself and shot Henix upon his entering the residence. The second suspect reportedly fled the scene of the crime on foot. It is not known at this time if the second suspect was injured.

Shreveport Police Violent Crimes investigators along with Crime Scene personnel arrived at the residence, launching immediate investigations into the incident. Evidence seized during a search of the residence suggests illegal narcotics may have been a motiving factor in the tragic turn of events. Minor children inside the home at the time of the shooting were uninjured and authorities with child welfare were notified. Holstead and a female, 23 year old Kimberly Dowden, was taken to Shreveport Police Headquarters, where they were subsequently interviewed by detectives. After the interviews Austin Holstead of the 800 block of Kimbrough Street was charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile and one count of illegal use of a weapon when illegal narcotics are present. Both Holstead and Dowden were transported to the Shreveport City Jail, where they were booked on the aforementioned charges. Currently authorities are working feverishly to determine the identity and whereabouts of the second suspect involved in the shooting. The vehicle believed used in the crime was impounded on scene.
