Miranda Sue Duncan, 20, of Lubbock went to join her grandpa, Robert Wossum on Feb. 27, 2014. Miranda was born Sept. 13, 1993, in Lubbock to Melissa and Scott Duncan. Miranda attended Brown Elementary where she won art awards and had two poems published in the Rising Star. In addition to being a poet, she was a Girl Scout and studied piano. While she attended Dunbar Science Academy, she participated in Future City, Best Robotics, Pink Engineering, and Engineering Bug. She received the Highest Honors award in the eighth grade. Along with her academic achievements, she played many sports including volleyball and softball. At Lubbock High she was a member of National Honor Society and the Senoritas. Outside of school, she was a member of the Robo Raiders First Robotics team which won the Chairman's Award at nationals in St. Louis. She was a Robotics mentor for many schools around Lubbock. She received many awards under the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering for math, science, and engineering challenge as well as essay, and poster, and t-shirt design. She received the TAME scholarship for the Lubbock Chapter. After completing her first year at Texas Tech she began to work as a Vet Tech Assistant where she found her desire to further her studies to become a Veterinarian. For hobbies, Miranda loved animals and tried to rescue all she crossed, as well as golf, the outdoors and the Houston Astros. Miranda is survived by her mother, Melissa and brother, Morgan; her father, Scott and spouse, Stephanie and children; her paternal grandmother, Mimi; Suzanne Witcher; her paternal grandfather, Robert Duncan and Kathy; Aunt Kiki; and her dog Bishop. A visitation for Miranda will be held from the hours 6 to 8 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, March 5, 2014. A funeral service for Miranda will be held at Westmont Christian Church at 2 p.m. on March 6, 2014, with interment following at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
