Officials say a Walnut Creek man whose body was found Saturday in Redwood National Park appears to have taken his own life.

The Humboldt County Coroner has ruled the death of Michael Steven McNulty, 32, a suicide, according to park spokeswoman Candace Tinkler.

McNulty had been missing since Nov. 2, according to a Facebook page created to help find him.

The search for McNulty began at the park on Friday, when a caller reported a silver Audi S8 that had been parked for several days at a trailhead in the park's southern portion. Rangers checked the area, but did not find anything before darkness set in.

The rangers returned Saturday and found McNulty's body far off the trail around 10 a.m., Tinkler said.
