An Altamont man has died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dead is 25-year-old Ryan N. Sapp.

The Effingham County Coroner's Office and Altamont authorities were called Tuesday evening to a residence in the 500 block of Bond Street. A family member who was home with Sapp at the time of the incident contacted authorities after hearing a gunshot from Sapp's room. Sapp was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:33pm.

Toxicology studies were performed by the Coroner's Office and the results are pending.

The Altamont Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Coroner's Office are handling the investigation into the death.
