Lifelong South Beach resident Frank F. Brothers, 32, a dedicated social worker who loved video games and his cats, died Monday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

The 1995 graduate of Curtis High School earned his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1999.

He began his social work career helping those with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities at Beacon of Hope House in Ocean Breeze. He also worked for A Very Special Place in Dongan Hills before joining the staff of Community Resources in Travis last year.

Described as outgoing and fun-loving, Mr. Brothers listened to music from every era, cherished his Italian and Irish heritage and spent hours playing video games, especially Final Fantasy XI.

He was also a movie lover who could easily recite lines from his favorites, among them "The Goonies," "The Lost Boys" and "Empire Records."

Mr. Brothers was a member of the Staten Island-Eight Ball League, enjoyed games of Texas Hold'em with his friends and was a fan of the Mets and the Jets.

He simply adored Pantera, Kashmir and Ozzy, his cats - whose names all pay tribute to his musical loves.

Mr. Brothers was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach, where he was baptized and received his first Holy Communion..

"He was more than a brother, he was my best friend," said his brother, Richard.
Surviving, along with his brother, are his parents, Kevin and Donna Brothers, and his companion, Tamara Cooper.

The funeral will be tomorrow from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
