An American citizen of Dominican extraction died in the city of Santiago after she underwent a liposuction procedure in a clinic in local clinic.

The victim was Ms. Fior D. Escoto, who was operated on in the Bella Forma Clinic, where half an hour after her operation ended she began to show symptoms of going into shock.

As her health deteriorated, the 47 year old lady was transferred to the Santiago Apostol Medical Center, where she passed away early Sunday morning.

Her body was taken to the morgue at the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez and from there to the Institute of Forensic Pathology where an autopsy was done to determine the cause of her death.

Mr. Elvis Escoto, the woman's brother, said that his sister was asthmatic, but that before she underwent the operation she did not tell the doctors that attended her that she suffered from the infirmity.

The woman, who had three children, will be taken shortly to New Jersey, in the United States, where she will be buried next Saturday.

In the meantime, the authorities from the Ministry of Public Health are investigating to see whether there was any negligence in this case in order to take the necessary measures.
