A driver for a Northampton County trucking company reported missing about two weeks ago took his own life after driving to his parents' home on the Gulf Coast of Florida on March 15, according to his employer.

The body of Robert L. Folkins was found in Sarasota County, a few miles from his parents' home in Port Charlotte, Fla., which is about 100 miles south of Tampa and 100 miles north of Naples.

Dr. Russell Vega, medical examiner for a three-county district that includes Sarasota, said Folkins died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to his chest. His body was found March 18 in an undeveloped subdivision in North Port, but he probably died a few days earlier, Vega said.

Folkins had been a truck driver the last three years at Horwith Trucks Inc. in East Allen Township. He did not report for work Monday, March 14. The next day, his parents found his pickup truck parked outside their home and reported him missing.
