An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing train on Millfair Road in Millcreek township August 19.

A train struck and killed a 39-year-old Millcreek Township man early Tuesday morning in Millcreek, about a mile from the spot where an 18-year-old man and his dog were killed by a train on Friday.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook identified the victim of Tuesday's incident as Louie Jordano, of Garloch Drive. Cook ruled the death a suicide.

Jordano was killed at 2 a.m. about 150 yards east of Millfair Road by a CSX freight train traveling west, Millcreek police said.

The site is about a mile east of where William Welkner, 18, was killed Friday afternoon by a train traveling west. Welkner's dog was also killed in that incident, near Manchester Road in Fairview Township.

Despite the proximity of the incidents, Millcreek police said Tuesday that they did not believe they were related.

Welkner's death is believed to have been an accident. Officials told his family that Welkner might not have realized a train was approaching him from behind because he was focused on a second, eastbound train coming toward him on a neighboring set of tracks.

Friends of Welkner's family have set up an account to help the family pay for funeral expenses.

Donations can be made in Welkner's name at any Northwest Savings Bank branch.
