The man originally arrested in connection with the death of a Hoopeston teenager admitted to violating his probation on Monday.

Thomas Dalton, 20, of Hoopeston, appeared in court Monday afternoon for a probation violation hearing on a 2005 felony case originally charging him with burglary and residential burglary. Through a plea agreement, he received 24 months of probation.

A petition to revoke that probation was filed after Dalton was arrested on a charge of drug-induced homicide in connection with the June 13 death of 18-year-old John Morgenroth and another charge of delivery of a controlled substance.

During Monday's hearing, Dalton admitted to the petition allegations which accused him of having morphine.

Presiding Judge Claudia Anderson accepted his admission in the violation case. A new sentencing hearing for Dalton is set for Aug. 8.

The 18-year-old Morgenroth was found at the Morgenroth home in the 300 block of East Washington Street the morning of June 13.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson has called the death a suspected drug overdose, but the type of drug involved in the incident - whether prescription medication or a street drug - has not been released.

Hoopeston police have released little information on the connection between Dalton and the death of Morgenroth. Police Chief Mark Drollinger has said the case is a "complex" situation.

Because of the probation violation, no formal charges have been filed in connection with the death of the Hoopeston 18-year-old.

Dalton remains incarcerated in the Public Safety Building jail on a $250,000 bond set as part of his probation violation.
