Graham Suchman was hanging out with a group of about 20 teenagers Saturday night at the Wisconsin Avenue railroad crossing just south of the Oceanside train station, NBC 7/39 reported. Valparaiso police said a teen was killed when he disregarded the flashing lights and gates at a railroad crossing and struck the side of a train. Timothy "T.J." Dillon Jr., 17, of Valparaiso, was killed about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in a crash at Sturdy Road and the Canadian National railroad tracks. A witness, who was stopped waiting for the train to pass, told police the crossing's gates were down and the lights were flashing when he saw a car speeding -- going about 55 mph -- southbound on Sturdy Road. The witness told police the speeding car's driver, later determined to be Dillon, disregarded the lights and gates and struck the train. read more...

A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed Tuesday afternoon by a Caltrain as he was reportedly crossing the tracks on his way home from school. The San Mateo County Coroner's Office has identified the boy as Fatih Kuc, who lived on nearby Linden Ave. and was a seventh grader at Burlingame Intermediate School, not far from the location of the accident. A 17-year-old Aberdeen girl died Wednesday morning after she was struck by an Amtrak train on her way to school. Akilah Boddy was walking to Aberdeen High School with two boys shortly after 8 a.m. when she was struck, said Detective Sgt. Steve Smith of the Aberdeen Police Department. The two boys heard the train coming and crossed the tracks, Smith said. The boys told Smith that when they looked back to see where Akilah was, she was no longer behind them. A Bakersfield teenager who loved to give to others was killed last night by a train passing through Boron. The Sheriff's department says 15 year of Brittany Louise Juilfs and her friends tried to beat a westbound train on foot at the intersection of Twenty Mule Team Road and Boron Ave at 9:30 pm last night, when one of the other girls fell and got her foot stuck on the tracks. According to most sources, the tragic death of two young boys on the train tracks near Hawkins on September 21st was likely suicide. Christopher Ladell Hill, 17, and Harry Tyrone Rutledge, 15, apparently laid down on the train tracks and died of blunt trauma when a train hit them. Both were troubled youths who had recently run away from a group foster home near Tyler. According to a report in The Houston Chronicle, Rutledge had been declared a ward of the state last May when his mother, who lives near Austin, told state child care workers she was afraid to have him in their house. A woman dies after she's hit by a train. Amazingly, the young child with her suffered only minor injuries. The accident happened late Saturday afternoon in Reno County near Arlington. Investigators say the woman's car was heading south across the tracks at K-61 and Hodge Road when the east bound Union Pacific train T-boned it. Other than blowing the train's whistle, there was nothing the engineer could do. Gwenavere McReynolds, 21 of Meade, was dead when Kansas Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene. Somehow, 2-year-old Triston Deardon survived the accident. He was taken to a Hutchinson hospital with only minor injuries. Troopers say the boy's child seat may have saved his life. read more...

Military officials on Sunday released the identities of four sailors killed when a helicopter crashed in the ocean off the San Diego coast. Three of the bodies had yet to be found. Lt. j.g. Laura J. Mankey of West Hills, in northern Los Angeles County, died in Friday's crash during a training mission, according to a Navy statement. Also killed were Lt. Adam A. Dyer, 28, of Lafayette, Louisiana; Petty Officer 1st Class Cory J. Helman, 27, of New Richmond, Wisconsin; and Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher M. Will, 29, of Warren, Michigan. DPS says the engineer say the car did not stop for the train. The passenger 18 year old Jacob Gilbert of Overton died. His brother, 23 year old Casey Gilbert was driving. The crash happened just before 11 a.m. Friday at Santa Fe Avenue and Hatch Road, between Hughson and Modesto.
