Another 3-Foot Rat Found -- In A Bronx Foot Locker

    THE BRONX (PIX11 NEWS)?
A second report of a gargantuan rat surfaced on Twitter Thursday, allegedly discovered in what appears to be the storage room of a Foot Locker in the Bronx.

The 3-foot beast might not be believable, except for a photo that was taken of a similar rat killed by a maintenance worker in August at the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn.

In that instance, experts hypothesized that it was a Gambian pouched rat that may have incorporated itself into the local NYC rat population. They were reportedly common pets, but imports were halted in 2003 after the Gambian rodent was linked to a Monkey pox outbreak.

According to residents of the Marcy Houses, several other gigantic rats have been seen, and it's possible they are breeding happily. Are we going to be seeing these rats in the subway next??

...This is the other rat picture the article is referring to:

I am pretty sure I would die of a stroke or heart attack if I ever came across a rat like that. :(

But are these guys 7'2" or something?

And considering this is in the Bronx, and in the Projects...is this really news?

No it's like the way they're holding it at the camera, something like that.

    PHILIDELPHIA, PA (KTVI - FOX2now.com—

A Philadelphia McDonalds is under scrutiny after a former employee recorded a mouse nibbling away at hamburger buns. The former employee used his cell phone to show the mouse inside a bag of buns at the fast food restaurant.

The employee claims this was the sixth or seventh time he'd seen a mouse and was finally able to capture it on his cell phone.

According to the FOX 29 station in Philly, the employee also claims he told the manager who then told employees to brush off the droppings and serve the bread to customers.

The owner of the McDonald's franchise is investigating the claims.

    mouse is kind of cute

I have my students read Kozol's book "Amazing Grace" about children growing up in the South Bronx. They talk about rats as large as house cats that become immune to rat poison and actually attack people. We see them in the sewers here in Rochester, but if I had one in the house, I'd officially have to burn it down. The mice are enough. I have to draw the line somewhere.

We'll never forget you: Elephants say a sad farewell to baby who died of a heart defect

A herd of grieving elephants gathers round the lifeless body of a little calf after she died of a heart defect.

Three-month-old Lola was due to receive groundbreaking surgery for her condition but passed away during a preliminary scan.

Keepers at Munich's Hellabrunn Zoo decided to return her body to the enclosure so mother Panang, 22, could say her goodbyes in peace.

Afterwards the rest of the herd gently nuzzled Lola's body with their trunks before taking their leave of her.

'Considering the pathology, it has to be said it's a miracle that she lived as long as she did," said Dr. Knieriem.

'Her arteries were so blocked that blood couldn't flow through her lungs
    anymore.'

Elephants are widely believed to mourn the deaths of members of their herd, and even pay homage to long-dead elephants.

A 2005 study in the UK found the creatures displayed traits similar to humans and, coming across the remains of an elephant, would gently touch the skull and tusks with their trunks and feet.

They are also believed to display a ritual around death, with several elephants travelling to visit a dead body and touching the corpse with their trunks.

Some elephants have been seen to weep and others make sounds associated with grief as they cover the body with leaves and branches before keeping a silent vigil.

Zoo director and veterinarian Dr Andreas Knieriem explained how baby Lola died after three days of treatment by experts.

    RIP pretty little Lola

Not really. People hunt the fucking things. Don't they not have trunks now cause of poachers?

Too many people around to be able to have feelings for animals too. It's hard enough for me to fake emotion over human misery. You're killing me here, Smalls!

It's touching and fascinating whenever we're reminded that just because we build shit doesn't mean we're the only ones experiencing life in a cognizant manner.
