For those who
didn't read the comments... OMG, I just went through and read them all. Every. Single. One. A very fascinating story lies beneath the surface of this seemingly standard family triple murder. There are numerous sock puppets in the early comments section, but they are easy to pick out. It's the later comments that begin to tell a much bigger story worthy of a Lifetime movie.
Out of 395 comments, there was
one that was favorable to Joy. It was from a self-described filmmaker who met her once when she held a gate open for him when his hands were full of equipment. There was occasional admonishment from those who felt it was "wrong to speak ill of the dead." Other than that, there was a universal feeling that Joy was an avowed racist with serious anger issues and the tenacity of a pitbull who delighted in destroying people's lives. She was a law enforcement officer with a penchant for married men and used her badge to wreak havoc in the lives of people who she decided had crossed her in some way. She openly practiced Black Voodoo death curses against her enemies. Every commenter who knew Joy personally had negative things to say about her. No one described her as "nice." Most (including the men she dated) admitted they were afraid of her. The words "crazy" and "psycho" were bandied about.
The comments section of this blog post became a cathartic place for Joy's victims to come together and tell their stories. They posted for four years (surprising in itself) and several said they thought they were the only ones, they didn't know she had done this stuff to others. If the comments are to be believed, they were left by school/college mates, fellow law enforcement officers, ex-"boyfriends," aunts, cousins, neighbors, teachers, prison officials, fellow escorts (where she was alleged to be blackmailing the johns).... the list is endless. The tales went back to school days. All of them told the same stories of meeting a kind, intelligent woman who pulled a Jekyll/Hyde act w/heavy stalker tendencies when disagreements arose. She is accused of intentionally getting pregnant for the child support. The alleged family members claim she severely abused the son who murdered her and constantly told him she wished she hadn't had him. She was allegedly bringing johns (sometimes more than one at a time) into the house and he could hear them in the bedroom, remember there were two little girls living there too. His schoolmates said he hated his mother. I can't believe he pleaded guilty. There is speculation in the comments that he was pressured into it because a trial would have been embarrassing to the Sheriff's Office (she was a Deputy) and her family. There are claims her family has always thought they were better than the other black families in Valdosta. Don't we have a member from that area? I'd love to hear their take on this. Anyway, it paints a pretty fascinating picture of a severely disturbed woman, her impact on the lives of those around her, and her ultimate (some say deserved) end. I've never seen a triple murder victim so universally despised. This comment from Sondra summed it up:
I'm no psychiatrist but I play one in real life and I definitely think Joy was a "social path"
