5-year-old child claims to be reincarnated actor, Marty Martyn, who died in 1964.

"Mum, I used to be somebody else":
Five-year-old claims he was a Hollywood actor and has been reincarnated.

The family have contacted a child psychiatrist, who insists: "These cases demand an explanation"

A mother's life was turned upside down when her five-year-old son told her that he used to be a Hollywood actor and was reincarnated.

It all began when her son was four, and experienced vivid and haunting nightmares.

It was not until one year later however, when Ryan Hammons was five, that he shared his secret.

Speaking to US programme Today, mum Cyndi, from Muskogee, Oklahoma, said: "He said mom, I have something I need to tell you - I used to be somebody else."

But it became clear to her that this was not just a child's imagination running away with itself, due to the shocking level of detail he would recall from his past life.

He told his mother of his previous experiences - travelling the world, working with stars like Rita Hayworth, and dancing on Broadway.

She added: "His stories were so detailed and they were so extensive, that it just wasn't like a child could have made it up."

Cyndi, who was raised as a Christian in a Baptist church, was not taught to believe in reincarnation.

However her son's incredible revelations left her feeling the need to research his claims - and then is when it began to feel real.

"We found the picture, and it changed everything," she said.

The photo was found in a library in a Hollywood memorial book, showing a shot from a 1932 film called Night After Night.

Ryan said: "She turns to the page in the book, and I say "that's me, that's who I was.'"

The actor was an extra in the film, with no lines.

Mystery actor: Marty Martyn, who Ryan claims he used to be.

As the details of Ryan's claim became more specific, Cyndi sought out help from Dr Jim Tucker, a professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia.

Speaking of Ryan's case, he said: "These cases demand an explanation.

"We can't just write them off or explain them away as just some sort of normal cultural thing."

A film archivist was able to identify the unknown actor as Marty Martyn, a former movie extra who later became an agent in Hollywood.

The former actor died in 1964.

Professor Tucker added: "If you look at a picture of a guy with no lines in a movie, and then tell me about his life, I don't think many of us would have come up with Marty Martyn's life.

"Yet Ryan provided many details that really did fit with his life."

Wow, this stuff fascinates me. I heard this story about a kid. He looked at his mum one day and said
" I was in a car accident once, I burned to death. It hurt, my sister lived, she's an old lady now." Something like that. Freaking spooky !

Did some digging about today, and came up with this.

Interesting read, no matter what you choose to believe.

I've seen one they did on a kid who said he was a pilot in the war. It was pretty interesting.

I totally believe reincarnation is possible. I just don't know why these particular people remember their past lives while others don't.

Yeah. At five years old those sneaky little fuckers are totally Google savvy when it comes to obscure B-movie actors from the 60's.

Don't get me wrong, I think reincarnation could exist. However, I am very skeptical about anyone who claims to have been someone famous/well known in the past. I imagine it would go down like this for a kid -

Kid - 'Mum, I had a dream that I was an old man'
Mother - OMG YOU MUST HAVE BEEN REINCARNATED. LET'S GO ONLINE AND FIND SOMEONE WHO MATCHES YOUR DREAM DESCRIPTION.

And I know it says different in the article above, but I am not convinced.

Read the second link I posted. They go into more detail about his case. The dead fellow's family says he knew many details about this guy's life, right down to how his home was decorated.

    Interesting read.

Yeah, I agree. it's like how everyone does their genealogy and is like oh man i am a direct descendent of Queen Victoria and Alexander The Great and Cleopatra and Robin Hood. And I'm like, YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED and also congrats on finding out you are the DIRECT DESCENDENT of British royalty, you should probably go challenge the throne.

no one's ever like 'So turns out my entire family line is made up of starving fisherman.'

The only it's true is if you're related to Ghengis Khan because pretty much everyone is related to him because he fucked every woman on earth.

If this is the case, my 3 year old was a nun in a past life. We drove by a church the other day and he said "Mommy, I used to live in a church when I was a girl before"

Good news, then. No stripper pole for her!

Bowie, I'm related to Vincent Van Gogh. Which should come as no surprise to anyone, being that he's a nutter, too.

Farmer. Generation after generation of farmers. And a few school teachers, librarians and a lady pharmacist. Oh and a witch.

Well, also kids aren't as close-minded. Like when my brother was very, very little, he would randomly get freaked out before going to bed, and he'd talk about how he used to be an old man and he hurt everywhere and got very very tired and went to bed and woke up as baby wes.

It was pretty weird. No one in my family was into that kind of thing.

But I agree that it's always oh it's someone famous, that's usually the parent embellishing. If I ask my nieces if ANYTHING is a picture of them, they'll be like YEAH YEAH THAT'S HER YEAHHHH. I mean my niece showed me a picture of a black ginger yesterday and told me it was her.

    (it was a cartoon fairy)

No idea. My mother did it years ago. I think most of her info actually came from home in The Netherlands.

Ancestry is great. And if you get lucky you may find that great aunt katy has uploaded a tree and you can just downloaded. The problem is that the old girl drinks and thinks you are descended from Cleopatra.
