Information Release: Crash 12-09-14 on IH35W at Asher Rd
At Approximately 3am this morning, Alvarado Police and Fire responded to a single vehicle accident on IH35W near Asher Rd. On arrival, APD Officers found a truck tractor in the lanes of the east service road. It was apparent that the vehicle had been southbound on IH35W, crossed through the cable divider, and then crossed all of the northbound lanes before the cable finally brought the vehicle to a stop on the east service road. The cables were stretched across IH35W blocking all northbound lanes.
Officers immediately responded up to the truck and found a 57 year old male, from Odessa, slumped over inside. They removed him from the vehicle and quickly began administering CPR. Alvarado Fire and Careflite Ground responded. Emergency crews tried, but were unsuccessful, in saving the driver.
The cause of the death is still under investigation however from early indications it appears that the driver suffered a medical condition (unknown causes) prior to the accident. The driver was identified as a 57 year old male from Odessa.
The highway was closed for approximately 2 hours as the wreck and cables were cleared.
