Okay I am finished the book, except for the appendices.
I made an error in my earlier post and have fixed it - it was JOEY'S mother, not Summer's that went to the McStay house after they disappeared and cleaned up.
The book was disappointing. There were a ton of errors, including one where the author speaks about something that happened before they went missing in 2012. They went missing in 2010. I know it's a typo, but how hard is it to check?
The whole Dan Kavanaugh thing is weird. He transferred around 12-15k out of Joey's account in the months after he died. He also sent clients of Earth Inspired Products (Joey's company) emails asking them to redirect payment to his (DK's) father and grandfather's accounts. There was a payment of $81k made by a Saudi Arabian customer for a fountain and no record of where payment went to can be found. DK met and spoke to the author but backed off when the author asked questions about payments etc. DK is/was also going to write a book about the whole case but I think that may have fizzled out.
There's a section on sightings in Mexico. Apparently a lot of the tips were sent to the McStay family website (which is run by Mike McStay) and none of them were ever followed up. One of the sightings was from a Walmart in Cabos where the person says he reported a sighting of Joseph at the store and nothing was followed up. He talks about how the Cabos Walmart is one that only locals use - this isn't true. I'm an Australian and went there on my last trip to Mexico - it's on a main road. Odd. And when the author contacted the sightor (is that a word lol?!?), he then refers to Joseph as Joey, and the author questions if the sightor had met Joey since the sighting and become friends?
One of the absolute weirdest things in the book is where they talk about an email that Summer received from a website called something like hrnyhousewives.com. It's pretty clearly spam, but pages are spent talking about the possibility that she was involved in amateur porn.
I think the whole thing regarding Joey's mother and Mike McStay visiting the house and cleaning it out is just so odd. Apparently months after the disappearance, they called Summer's sister and mother and told them they were going to the house and they were welcome to meet them there. When Summer's family arrived, EVERYTHING had been stripped and sold. Mike and mother said it was being sold to meet child support committments for Joey's older son? Summer's mother was so distressed at the state of the house and the situation that she was hospitalised. Joey's mother apparently sold Summer's things and then told her family that 'she won't need them where she is' (paraphrasing but basically those words).
Do you mean if the step-father resented the son? There is a small amount of info in the book about him. He isnt named but apparently someone with the exact same name as him has a criminal record for abuse. I didn't know this either but Joey's first wife cheated on him and became pregnant with another child while they were still married. Joey offered to raise the kid as his own but that didn't work out obviously.
And another odd thing. Summer was married before and was STILL living with her exhusband when she started dating Joey and became pregnant with Gianni. There were apparently questions as to if Joey was the kid's bio dad or not.

Thanks for all the info from the book!! I think I'll get it just to see if I can glean anymore info...

Anyone checked out Rick Baker's blog lately.? Apparently it was visited by someone at the Department of Homeland Security who visited this post http://rickgbaker.blogspot.com.au/20...this-post.html
And apparently Mike McStay has visited the site 95 times?!
And there are some interesting emails posted on there from James Spring who I think may be a PI?

There were some 'emails' that Summer had sent about the situation with the son (his name is Jonah). But they were the emails that I think were dodgy - they didn't list any details besides the body text. No recipient, date, time details etc. I don't know why Rick Baker presented the emails like that - it makes them look made up. He included all the data for Joey's business emails, but not for Summer's? Weird.
How do they know Mike has visited 95 times?
I don't think it can be disproved. You know what I mean? If they are in witness protection the truth isn't necessarily going to be given.
I can see why the FBI would get involved, as a red herring. It also may be why the SD Sheriff stopped looking. They may not have been privy to info and just been told to stop. They may be 'on a need to know basis and they don't need to know' kind of thing.
I agree - he doesn't help his cause.
Interesting new theory posted on Baker's blog. Joey killed Summer, buried her body and then fled the country.
But he has deleted the info about Mike McStay visiting the blog 95 times??
I just don't understand how it is recorded. I understand it recording 'visitor from Butte, Montana' with the time and how they entered the site 'google referral, MDS, FB,etc.,' but I have no idea how computer stuff works. Like if we are visiting his site from MDS, does it say 'morbidT visited?' That's what I mean. And, what if it is from a wifi signal at McDonalds? How does it know who you are?
Interesting. I also didn't realize their financials weren't frozen. I don't think Joey killed Summer. Not with two kids there. How would he hide the body from them?
How does Mike know what clothes were missing? Especially if they weren't particularly close? And why did Mike go to check on them and get on his computer? This case makes absolutely no sense. After reading more, and that dudes blog, I think they are alive and left. Maybe it had to do with the fraud thing Summer was involved in. Which I never heard of until reading Rick's blog. I dunno. I get too many thoughts running through my head after reading Rick's blog. The info on there is so much different than what the McStays post on their FB pages.
A website tracker can be set up to keep a log, this is our log, but it's set up to keep things somewhat anonymous so not all the details are recorded. What we have is enough that we can contact the host site of a user who is being :retarded: but not personally identifying information. But its possible to harvest much more info if one wants to be a creeper. Rather than the commercial host name we could track individual ip's etc. Now that doesn't get you everything you need to know who it was but you can certainly link the ip to a message and say, "ok MorbidT was posting 8:16 local time and the only user from her area is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" then you just track your number. Easy for someone with admin privs.

The MySpace blog wasn't deleted by the person who wrote it - MySpace pulled the plug on it's old servers sometime in the last few weeks and launched the all *NEW* Myspace. Profiles stayed but look different. ALL the old blogs are gone. ALL games are gone.
James Myspace today: https://myspace.com/jamesrspring/
Some examples of blogs gone:
Tracey Ann Medina (http://mydeathspace.com/article/2006...d_is_unknown)- her sister's MS blog: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...3-8d56548550d1 - it now leads to generic new MS page
Jason Casto, Sr (http://mydeathspace.com/article/2009...aking_his_life) - his EPIC suicide note/blog: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...ogId=497502702 - it now leads to generic new MS page
I think the blog coming up 'deleted' is just a coninkydink and I posted that on the Blogspot page (it is waiting for approval). James' deleted message being a 404 rather than the generic new MS page is a matter of how the links were typed out - most MDSers linked from the Blogs subsection of a MS page and the Blogspot links through James' main Myspace page itself.
It is SUPER SAD that any MS blog MDS linked to and did not C&P is now pretty much gone unless we can find web caches.

Wow good info nestle. When I was adding deaths, I found a whole bunch of MySpace links were invalid and that makes sense why.
I think it's dodgy how a lot of what baker puts on his blog contradicts what's in his book.
So Baker is saying now that the photo he posted on his blog earlier in the year WAS Joey. The McStay FB pages have been quiet - I figured Patrick was back in jail or something, but maybe they really have been found and the family knows it now?
The guy in the hat is meant to be Joey. I don't think they are the same person.
From Baker's blog -
From the beginning, I thought it could be Joey. It looked like him, it just did. My investigators told me it was not and I respected their judgement. I became more convinced it was Joey because of the way the FBI responded when I contacted them with the pics and other info. They had never responded at all to any of my other contacts. Within 30 minutes of my sending the pic, they had contacted me and wanted all my info and that of the citizen investigators who made the find. They then hacked my email and websites. Sure, we all know that the FBI are professional liars, it's what they do. But the way they responded to just one picture from Spring, TX, got me thinking. After spending time on the phone with the FBI, and a bit of a slip on their part, I am convinced the pic is Joey in 2011. He is long gone I am sure. Also interesting is the way Patrick responded at first. He agreed the pic looked like his son. He should know how his son looks, right? Usually, Patrick would hurl his toxic words at me whenever I said I might have found the family. Always calling me a liar. But, not this time. This time he said the pic looked like his son and he wanted the rest of the pictures I had. Why would he change so fast? Shortly after I released the pics, he stopped posting on his FB page. Why? Because he talked to the same FBI lead agent after I did. It is the response of the players in this case to that one picture that should bring pause.
The nose is completely different, the hat guy has a thinner upper lip & it's a physical feature not a trick of the light, or the way he was holding himself when the shot was taken. Other than possible hair colour, there's no similarity whatsoever. Makes me wonder about their other "discoveries" if they honestly believe this. Hmm
