Yes, negative 40s and 50s with an even lower wind chill. That is not an exaggeration. I have pictures of snow touching the second floor gutters of our home, and of my husband shoveling a tunnel for us to walk out of our front door. Forget that noise. I cried every day.
Jesus
North Dakota is not of this Earth, Ron. I wish I could say it was false but I lived it. I almost died out there one night. The first time it snowed a ton, I got really excited and slipped my husband's huge work boots on to go outside and take pictures of the drifts that were taller than me. I lost a boot and cried running back to the house with one bare foot and it took over a half hour to get the feeling back in my foot. I would have cried that night, too, but I'm pretty sure my ducts were frozen.
Wait...wait....wait....what!?!? You\re kidding me. It can't get that cold. Wouldn't human skin freeze instantly in those conditions??
I think I'm so used to people bitching about how "cold" it is when it's well above freezing that I don't expect people to complain about actual cold.
But THAT fucking cold? No fucking way.
These are some of the records over the years, and the regular temps that aren't considered records aren't much different:
49 Below Sets All Time Record Here”
“Sinking to unprecedented depths the mercury in North Dakota early this morning ran down the tube to its deepest recesses, and when Minoters got up they found a new all-time record had been established locally, 49 below zero. The coldest previous mark registered in the official records was 47 below on January 13, 1916.
“And at Denbigh Dunes, the federal forestry station 34 miles east of Minot, a reading of 56 below was registered, to lead the state and evidently the nation for low temperatures.
“Both Willow City and McClusky reported 53 degrees below zero during the night.
“A bitter duty confronts news gathering agencies this afternoon in informing the public the weather man sees not much evidence of early relief from the Mackenzie valley blasts which have swept much of the United States. In fact, he forecasts ‘continued cold,’ a refrain which has become more tiresome than the ‘Music Goes Round and Round.’ For the coming week, he believes it will be cold most of the time with local snows.”
I'll stop after this, but this was shot while we lived there. Utter bullshit. Humans should not have to live in a place like this.
Because I will NEVER go there again. Just thinking about it makes me want to go suck my thumb and rock on the floor in a corner some where. It was traumatizing. And, like Puzz said, the locals there are very polite and act like it's no thing. You should see them driving 70 mph down the two lane "highway" there in whiteout conditions. Let it rain a slight drizzle and they wreck all over the place. It's seriously something you'd have to see to believe.
DTTMMH:
cold, cold iced water
Because to some people, 50 degrees is cold and uncomfortable. I have circulation problems and pretty much anything below 65 makes my hands and feet freeze up. Likewise, I don't get upset when someone thinks 80 degrees is hotter than hell. It's not to me, but it is for some people.
Note to self: No North Dakota in winter! Wow.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Omg that literally just made me tear up from laughing.
fist day of class is complete.
