Two 19-year-olds went to extreme lengths to get an ice cream fix Sunday.
Dravion Kemp (left) and Ernest Smith (right) have been charged with robbing Jesus Garcia as he parked his portable ice cream cooler at 10401 N. Lamar Blvd.

According to the affidavit for their arrest, Kemp and Smith approached Garcia to purchase ice cream but ran off without paying. The affidavit said that when Garcia chased them, they turned and punched him in the head. While he was down, one of the suspects went into Garcia’s pockets and took two cell phones, the affidavit said.
Kemp and Smith then ran back to the ice cream cooler and stole a few more ice cream bars before running to the Arrowhead Apartment complex across the street, the affidavit said.
An Austin police officer arrested the pair in the breezeway of the Arrowhead Apartments; several ice cream wrappers were found on the ground near them, the affidavit said. Garcia’s cell phones were recovered from Kemp and Smith, the affidavit said.
Both men were charged with robbery by assault — a second degree felony. Smith’s bail is set at $25,000; Kemp’s bail is $18,000.
