SAN FRANCISCO -- Two people are behind bars for allegedly raping and sodomizing a 13-month-old girl and taking pictures of the acts.
Tessa Van Vlerah, 20, from Missouri and Kenneth Kyle, 46 a university professor from San Francisco, are both facing multiple felonies.
Among them, statutory rape in the first degree, first degree statutory sodomy and promoting child pornography in the first degree.
Van Vlerah was arrested at her Missouri home on Tuesday.
Kyle was arrested Monday at San Francisco International Airport, after returning from a trip to Europe
Federal agent began investigating Kyle in December when they discovered he was allegedly exchanging child porn on line with others.
Agents contacted San Francisco authorities and a search warrant was served at Kyle's home a week ago.
At Kyle's home in San Francisco, agents discovered communications on his computer with Van Vlerah.
Police say Kyle made several trips to St. Louis over the past year to visit Van Vlerah.
During those visits, the couple would go to motels in the Westport area and engage in sex acts with the baby, police say.
This allegedly started when the baby was just five months old. She's now 13 months old.
Investigators say Van Vlerah and Kyle met online.
Van Vlerah is jailed on a two million dollar bond.
Kyle has state and federal cases pending in San Francisco as well as the charges in Missouri.
The baby is in state custody.
