MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) ? An Aynor man is behind bars after police say he assaulted an ex with a sack of potatoes and held her at knife point.

Reports WMBF News obtained from Horry County Police show that the events leading to the arrest of 32-year-old Dan Spivey of Aynor transpired on June 2 in a Myrtle Beach hotel room.

Police responded to the extended stay hotel that morning to find the female victim crying hysterically with blood covering most of her face.

The victim claims she was once in a relationship with Spivey, living with him for almost three years, but his abuse caused her to end the liaison a year ago and seek a protective order. And though they had separated, money troubles led the victim to start talking to Spivey again.

The victim claims she woke up and noticed money was missing from her purse, and when she asked Spivey about it a fight ensued.

During the three hour assault, the victim says Spivey beat her with his hands, kicked her, hit her with a sack of potatoes, strangled her, tased her and threatened her at knife point.

She continues that she lost consciousness three times and would awake after ten minutes to find he was still beating her. She explains that she heard Spivey on the phone talking to who she assumes was his family telling them what he was doing and asking them to join them in the abuse.

The victim, void of a cell phone she says Spivey took from her, threw an object through the window to get someone's attention, and that spared her enough time to get to a phone and call 911.

The report continues to say the victim grabbed her purse, jumped a fence and ran out of sight.

Responding officers noted the victim was swollen behind her ears and had several knots on the back of her head as well as a taser mark on her lower back and a swollen lip.

A sack of potatoes and knife were found on the floor. The suspect could not immediately be located.

On the following day, the case was presented to a judge and warrants were issued for Spivey for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and kidnapping.

The arrest report shows Dan Spivey was taken into custody by Horry County Police early Wednesday morning after receiving a tip to his location. Spivey was found in a home hiding under the bed.

Booking records for J. Reuben Long Detention Center show Spivey has been charged with assault and battery, kidnapping, malicious injury to personal property and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. His bond has not been set.
