Re: Does anyone else on MDS suffer from Anxiety Attacks

Xanax saved my life! I have bad tinnitus from a gunshot and I kept feeling that my life was over and I couldn't get out of bed. It wasn't a miracle cure, but it took the edge off my anxiety and helped me deal with my problems. I've been off it a year and stressfull events have made my anxiety come back worse with a new symptom (noise sensitivity) that has been difficult to deal with. Now not even a head doctor will give me anything to calm down.

    Fun times.

Re: Does anyone else on MDS suffer from Anxiety Attacks

I started having anxiety attacks right after I started puberty. I kept telling my parents I felt like I was having an asthma attack but they never believed me. Finally, when I was about 14, my mom took me to the doctor because of a particularly bad one. I was at the salon with my friends when one got bitchy with me. My chest started hurting, felt sick, etc. The doctor figured it started because I had so much stress in my life (parent's divorce, moving, bf breaking up with me) that the little thing of someone being bitchy set it off. I've never taken meds (well, ambien, but that was for depression) because I can usually get myself out of them by breathing and laying down. But ever since they started, tiny things will trigger them. I used to have 1 or 2 a week when I was 14,15,16 but now I only have one like once a year. Last time was at the bar. Too hot and tons of people.

um unless you have driving anxiety and drive the fuck off the road because of them  :2wave:

You turd, I meant the actual attack itself!!!!!!!  But I know what you mean.  There's different situations and shiz.  Like Staci said with flying, some people need some meds just to get them through it.  My friend is that way.

Re: Does anyone else on MDS suffer from Anxiety Attacks

I've taken xanax (which I CANNOT take, I somehow get incredibly violent when I take them), Ativan, and Klonopin.  The Klonopin so far has been my favorite.  I used to take the benzo class of drugs every day.  Like Kara, I had really bad driving anxiety, and wouldn't leave the house.  I still take the Klonopin when I can't sleep.  Sometimes I'll jolt out of my sleep, or wake up with an anxiety attack.

One thing that might help you is some stuff called Calms Forte by Hyland.  I take it up to 3 times a day, and you can take up to 3 at a time.  It has really helped with sleep.  And when I was going through all of my legal drama, it totally got me through it.  Best of all, there's no danger of becoming addicted to it.

Breathing deeply helps. When I have an anxiety attack, I try to go lie down someplace nice and quiet, and read a book.  Generally after about a half hour or so, crying and reading, eventually it passes.

And stay away from caffeine.  I've got to quit drinking it, because lately, I KNOW that's what is setting off my anxiety.  That, and my kids being at the in-laws for the week...they've been gone a lot of the summer visiting up north, and when my kids aren't here, I get all bugged out.

Get yourself some Lavendar scents.  Sprays, bath oils, lotions.  I like to spray some lavender on my pillows at night.  Or I'll spray myself down with it during an attack and believe it or not, it helps soooo much.  A nice hot lavender scented bubble bath also eases the anxiety quite nicely.

Try though, to stay away from the benzodiazepine class of drugs, or don't take them too long.  You can develop a tolerance to them, and the anxiety will come back, sometimes stronger than before.  And you don't want to take them longer for a week, unless it's debilitating, then you may end up on them for life.  Withdrawing from these drugs is VERY dangerous.  Never, ever stop taking them cold turkey.  You have to ease off of them, sometimes it takes a good six months of titrating to get off of them.

Oh, and one more suggestion.  Get yourself some Chamomile teas.  I like the Sleepytime, Sleepytime Extra, and Tension Tamer from Celestial Seasonings.

It tastes like heaven.  I'm on my last three bags of the Sleepytime Extra, nobody ever seems to carry it.  But I have a couple boxes of Sleepytime and sometimes hide em from my kids.  If they want tea, they can drink the dang green tea, I guard my sleepytime with my life

That bear looks so cozy and cute lol

I wanted to add.  Try if you dont already, taking vitamins.  Especially your Omega 3s and B vitamins.  I find that the B vitamins sure do help a lot with anxiety and depression.  Get yourself some good excercise, even a brisk walk around the block, or even the yard helps get rid of a lot of pent up bad energy.

And if you ever do get access to some good medicines, as hard as it is to get off of, I recommend Effexor XR.  That is the only thing that helped me long term.

And one more thing.  When you feel an anxiety attack coming on, visualize.  What I do is close my eyes, think of my muscles relaxing from toes on up to my head.  Then I envision moving around furniture in my living room, or walking down some steps and opening a door to whatever you visualize as paradise.  Visualize a nice bike ride in the country and concentrate on breathing deeply.  Breathe in while counting to ten, breathe back out counting to ten.

Re: Does anyone else on MDS suffer from Anxiety Attacks

everyone that i know says its all about the breathing, but shit, ive tried that and it doesnt seem to help at all.

you should have seen me at my last court date, i turned white as a ghost and thought that i was going to fall over. my lawyer was ready to call an ambulance, and i told him no. so, he made me wait outside the courtroom untill my case was called and now he doesnt even want me to come to court unless i really have to.

    these anxiety attacks suck ass!
I am "me" and if you dont like it....FUCK OFF!!!

ok guys I have a question kinda off subject (kinda)...

I have anxiety attacks, usually two maybe three a month. I know I'm depressed and it's getting worse. I dont have insurance and can't afford it. What am I supposed to do in this situation? Or is there anything I even can do??
I know I need to be on meds though.

Do you have clinics? In Philadelphia everyone is entitled to free health care and scripts at the clinics.

I don't know. I'm not the best at researching this kind of stuff and I really don't even know where to begin. Any tips you got would be appreciated. There has to be some sort of clinic around here that I could go to, I mean I live in Birmingham, AL so it's not like there's nothing around.

I've recently watched a movie about a a guy who lives in apartment then one day his life is turned upside down to become a hitman. He thought they're anxiety attack but they were actually to control and slowdown to shot around object and he shot the wings off a fly.
