Man arrested in movie theater after leaving child in car
    July 21st, 2008 @ 3:30pm
By Courtney Orton and Mary Richards
A man anxious to see the new Batman movie missed out on the ending after police arrested him for leaving his child in the car. The 2-year-old boy was found sitting in a car in the parking lot of the theater Saturday night.

It was almost 2:00 in the morning when the child was finally rescued from the car. The temperature inside was 87 degrees, but that wasn't the only threat facing the him.

While 23-year-old David Farnham was enjoying the 11:30 p.m. showing of "The Dark Night" inside an air-conditioned theater at Century 16, his 2-year-old son, Justin, was all alone in a hot car, surrounded by signs that warn patrons to park at their own risk.

South Salt Lake police say Justin had been in the car for more than two hours when other movie goers noticed the child and called for help.

"The child was in the car, sweating profusely and crying," said South Salt Lake police officer Gary Keller. "With the assistance of our fire department, we entered the car and got the child out of the car."

The toddler was dehydrated and thirsty from being locked inside the 87-degree car with the windows rolled up, but he was in relatively good condition.

Police say it could have ended a lot worse. "Especially a 2-year-old; they can dehydrate very, very quickly. You just never want to leave your child in the car ever, ever," Keller said.

Farnham, who has no prior criminal history, missed the last 10 minutes of the movie, and there was a slight interruption for everyone else when officers turned up the lights and arrested him inside the theater. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of child abuse and child neglect.

Justin is now with his mother, who shares custody. She told Eyewitness News over the phone that he's doing well and that she's grateful it didn't end differently.

I guess he figured it was better than both of them being killed when he brought that kid into a movie theater.

I'd be pissed if they interrupted the last ten minutes of the movie. Just take the kid and let the dad freak out when he finds out his son his gone (if he cares).

I would also demand he give me my money back, what an asshole.

I'm glad the kid was relatively, okay.

      People are seriously fucking stupid.

Probably paid more to see the movie than he would have paid for a babysitter.

Kara said she had that happen when she went.
I almost never go to see a movie in the first week, and I don't go at night, so when I go it's relatively quiet.
I haven't had a problem with kids or crying babies in theaters. I guess I'm lucky, cause I am the type to ask them to shut the kid up or GTFO.

Um, true tragic story.  When i was stuck visiting my dumb dad when I was 9, I had the chicken pox.  He came over and said "Hey, I'm taking you guys to see Ladybugs!" and i was like 'dad, you fucking moron, I have the chicken pox.'  So he left me home in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico alone and took my brother to see Ladybugs.  So not only does he suck butt at parenting, but I also never got to see Jonathan Brandis in drag on the big screen.

I saw someone bring in a baby when I saw Batman - and I had forgot until I saw this thread... never heard a peep from it! I was happily amazed.

(this really doesnt belong in this section though - since no one died - if it matters)

Hey, if it shuts the fuck up, then it's cool. A lot of people have quiet kids that don't make a ruckus.
unfortunately, these people are usually homebodies.

I still can't believe the cops fucked with the last ten minutes. I would have been so mad at that asshole I might have left in cuffs too.

I've taken the twins (just turned 4) to some Rated G flicks and it is always the parents that are the noisy loud idiots.
We should have predicted that some dick would have done this.  Losers leave their kids in the car for much less important things.

Oh, can you do that now?
