I think we can't all be good at everything, right? I (and apparently several other women on this board) are decidedly NOT good at cooking and many people in my life would prefer that I not subject them to my attempts. I'm willing to oblige them because it's all one big Stress Party in my kitchen.

Welcome "smith john." Fruits and veggies make me happy too. Well.... almost anything in the food family actually!

    JL?
HomeEc teachers be crazy... I got such shit for sifting wrong... And Brownies are hard. I've never managed to make a decent pan, not even from a box and I've tried, Lord knows. I maintain that anyone who puts their mind to it can manage to feed themselves and their family without depending solely on Ronald McD and Col Sanders. It just takes a commitment to do it and some attention to detail. It also helps to have sufficient money to afford ingredients and spices. But if you don't want to, are too busy, or whatever fine, but it's not because you are inadequate, you just don't make it any kind of priority. Now for me, it was worth learning to shop and budget. When I was 8 or 9 I started planning meals for the fam and helping with the prep work. If you helped prep, you didn't have to help clean up after! Then by the time I was 12 I had a budget for the meals I was cooking and I got to keep any money I didn't spend. Made me a thrifty chef. We did have a few discussions about the fact that Dad expected meat as part of his dinner! I thank the Lord for all the modern stuff that makes feeding people easier, I'd be very sad if I had to cook all the foods as grandma did!

Nic! it's OK to hate cooking. I just hate to see people sell themselves short. You all could cook. If you wanted to. You just have things you'd rather do, and that's fine. And I really do envy the person who just brings the paper goods or the soda!

As for Industrial Tech? I begged to take "shop" back in the day, cause I already knew how to cook and sew... but no. Girls take HomeEc. It's some sort of law. I would have been much better served with a semester of shop. Sigh.

See and that's the whole sexist thing that pisses me off. I get shit from my family for not cooking. I'm a woman so I'm expected to cook? Fuck that. When we have family functions I am forced to help cook because if I don't, I'm a jerk who isn't helping. Yet the guys get to sit around and watch football. It's bullshit.

I always dread Thanksgiving for this reason. If it's at my dad's, I have to cook or else my sister is stuck doing it herself. And then it gets hot, I get sweaty and I am just miserable.

My nana is having Thanksgiving at her house this year, so I may get out of it since her kitchen is small and I'm sure my aunts will all be in there

We used to always go to a friend's house for Thanksgiving. Bring cranberries or a pie or... She did the Turkey. That was nice. But we canceled last because or the plague. Haven't heard that she doing dinner this year... Probably not.

I acknowledge that this is probably why I don't cook well today. After I got out on my own, I didn't take the time to learn, and never seemed to learn from the mistakes I made - I burnt a LOT of meals, for example...duh! I talked to Mom about this today - why I had this reputation in the family for being such a bad cook. We were on FaceTime and she did that eye arch that says, "Stupid question!" Then she had a good laugh remembering all of my pathetic attempts, including some I had forgotten about. She said she tried to show me, but I just never "got it," and then she just kind of shrugged it off and changed the subject. Now I don't want to blame my "cooking disability" on my 91yo mother, but I'm about to anyway.... I think she saw I struggled with it and never pushed or encouraged me. She thought I was a lost cause and I always thought I was a lost cause. I was an overachiever, I avoid things I know I won't be good at. Cooking, sports, sewing, etc. So yeah, there's a lot of truth here, Puzz. It's all about the stories you tell yourself, right? I can't... I can never... I'm not...

I really admire the way your parents taught you to cook and keep a kitchen. I honestly couldn't teach my own children to do that because I have no idea how to do it myself. Good for them. You will never be voted off the island.

You will be pleased to know I was the first girl to be allowed to take "shop" at my high school in 1970-something. In the tenth grade, I was so miserable in Home Ec, I petitioned the Board of Education to allow me to take shop. The Home Ec teacher supported my request. I actually had to appear in front of the board and explain my reasons. No one here will be surprised to know I was prepared with a speech, but I remember being very nervous. They asked if I knew of any other girls who wanted to take shop and my girlfriend who came with me for moral support raised her hand. So the boys-only restriction was permanently dropped and we both got to take shop! Sadly, my shop accomplishments were on par with those of my Home Ec career. Maybe I just don't work well with my hands???

Amen, sister - I hear you! Old world Italian family here, a woman who doesn't cook is practically useless, although you can paper the kitchen with that degree I suppose. Nobody really wants me to help cook, so I overcompensate by setting up and cleaning like nobody's business. The guilty burden of Ninja Uncooking Skills weighs heavy and runs deep... sigh.

Mr. Tisha is having his monthly Zoom meeting with his Vietnam buddies tonight, and before he logged on, he set me up with:

    - a glass of ice water
    - a cup of tea
    - a bowl of moose munch
    - the tv remote

    That man spoils me.

I like working promotional events that have their shit together and I get paid well. I'm working an event this weekend in downtown Jax and I'm so happy that I'm getting a parking pass. Parking is a nightmare on game day. Also $225 for working 6 hours is great!

We got a puppy a couple months ago and someone gave us a box they got from barkbox and she loved the toys so much that we decided to sign up ourselves. It came today and every time I would pull it out and squeak it our puppy came running over, sniffing, and taking the toy to go off and play. Seriously the cutest thing ever. It's past her bedtime and she's usually dead to the world by now, but she's still playing with them...We might actually get to sleep in tomorrow lol

I upload the pics to imgur, then click on 'copy link' and 'get share links' and choose the BBC code forums option. Once you copy it just paste that link on MDS and it should show the pic.

DTTMMH: Bumping into this little fellow while on a walk last week. Our eyes met and locked. He didn't look away and I had to double back and talk to him. Meet Max, the liver coloured shih tzu with hazel eyes! And OMG, those lips!!!!! He looks like a hairy little hillbilly.

I probably knew about the pet thread but it didn't click at the time lol She has a few different breeds in her but I can only remember lab and bernese mountain dog right now.

She's very active so most pictures are of her in funny sleeping positions without her face but I'll see what I can find another day...I just got out of work and doing my nightly roaming the internet on random sites before I can allow myself to go to bed.
