Christmas before last Marta & I bought a Schwinn bike from Walmart for a neighborhood kid. He's in 8th grade this year, riding his bike to/from school and it still looks like the day we gave it to him. In either January or February this year I replaced the rear tire tube for him. Schwinn is a reliable name in bicycles.

Hmmmmm, this is relevant to my interests.

They are sturdy bikes within your price range. Lets face it, the bigger stores can offer better prices because they can buy in bulk.

Oh, I totally understand that, but the bikes I see at bike stores seem a lot different than the ones in the toy stores. Maybe I'm wrong though. But I also don't need fancy NASA-grade seats or an extra durable made-out-of-moonrock frame either.

I even went to the smaller shop in the first place cause I was trying to support local business. But it does seem like there's a difference and I don't wanna end up splattered on the sidewalk cause I (am poor) wanted to save a few bucks.

Doubt you'll end up splattered... and the wally world bike wouldn't appeal to the criminal elements nearly as much as the moon rock special.

True. My last bike got stolen cause I'd leave it in front of the house. I'm like "who's gonna steal it? It's right outside. Besides, no one really steals bikes, right?"

    I'm a fuckin hippie sometimes.

In 2003, we left our bikes unlocked outside of our apartment for 20 minutes and they were gone. Two weeks later, I saw a local crackhead riding my husband's bike. Gotta love Baton Rouge.

They didn't really buy them for heavy exercise. My mom and I went for a ride on Mother's Day and it was nice. A little bit of a workout but not exerting.
