Well, the sapphires are prong set, but I can't tell on the small diamonds. I think you're probably ok because they're bigger.

Did your ring come from Leigh Jay Nacht? They do antique or repros that look similar to your ring, and your diamond looks like it's an older cut -- either transitional or old european. It's beautiful!

I check their site out on a regular basis and droooooolllll. I'm a super sucker for antique settings and old stones, and IMHO their prices are quite good (which means you have more money to buy more rings!  )

If you like old stones, Good Old Gold has recently started recutting old cushions to be more uniform, and they're some of the most gorgeous stones I've ever seen.

Another place for antique diamonds is Erica Grace Jewelry:

well, i didnt work with them personally, as i had no idea i was getting an engagement ring when i did.  :lol:  he shopped for months for my ring, and that site was his favorite.  he said they were awesome, he gave them a very short amount of time to get the ring sized and sent to him (because he was deploying), and they sped things up and got it done. 

and damn you for linking those sites.  :lol:  i want them all.  for real, i love diamonds....thats my only super-girly thing.  i love old mine cut diamonds.  ugh.

Diamonds are sort of my hobby, which annoys SO. He has asked why I couldn't be into something a little bit cheaper. I can't help it -- I think it's amazing how a diamond is basically an old chunk of rock that someone can cut into a disco ball.

The romance of the old cut stones is what gets me. Many of these stones were hand cut by guys who then gave the stones to their wives/girlfriends. Even though my princess is well cut, I don't think it can hold a candle to the chunky facets and big flashes of an old cut stone.
