I can't drag down Decision 2008 with my ire any longer, so I thought, in lieu of the blatant sexism in the US, I'd start a thread to kick stuff in.
I believe I will open the topic door but addressing a few of the disgusting, anti-female articles written and published in mainstream 'valid' press. Specifically, I would like to address the Christopher Hitchens' article 'Why Women Aren't Funny' in Vanity Fair earlier this year, and an article in Details this month 'The Hollywood Gross Out Girls' by Jon Sellers, featuring this nice sentiment: "Women like Cameron Diaz think belching and farting make them more appealing to guys. Actually they inspire disgust."
Okay.
So the Hitchens' article is more along the vein of 'all women, as seen in Knocked Up and What Happens in Vegas... are uptight, humorless bitches with no sense of humor. And Sellers, well, he thinks that all women who engage in 'crude' humor (specifically siting comedians who talk about sex and ew gross their periods, which we all know is not at all a source for humor or even a need to basically understand) so pretty much, judging from the article, all women who make jokes, are crass and disgusting and only doing it to fit in with guys. Whereas men farting is fucking hilarious.
Response: Hitchens is stupid and one day, I hope to sit across from him and make him laugh so I can say "HAHAH MOTHER FUCKER YOU LAUGHED WITH A WOMAN YOU'RE SO WEAK." And Sellers is also a giant fucking moron. Dude, first of all, does it ever occur to men that women make jokes to appeal to...women? That we have a sense of humor that runs with each other? Plus, a fart joke is a fart joke is a fart joke. Sorry, it's the 21st century and the sad truth is out there: women are human beings, not figures carved out of ivory who only leave their pedestal to reproduce and clean the kitchen.
And, as my roommate said, "Who doesn't think flatulence is funny?"
