Sexism: a thread for at least me (bowie) to be mad in

I can't drag down Decision 2008 with my ire any longer, so I thought, in lieu of the blatant sexism in the US, I'd start a thread to kick stuff in.

I believe I will open the topic door but addressing a few of the disgusting, anti-female articles written and published in mainstream 'valid' press. Specifically, I would like to address the Christopher Hitchens' article 'Why Women Aren't Funny' in Vanity Fair earlier this year, and an article in Details this month 'The Hollywood Gross Out Girls' by Jon Sellers, featuring this nice sentiment: "Women like Cameron Diaz think belching and farting make them more appealing to guys. Actually they inspire disgust."

Okay.
So the Hitchens' article is more along the vein of 'all women, as seen in Knocked Up and What Happens in Vegas... are uptight, humorless bitches with no sense of humor. And Sellers, well, he thinks that all women who engage in 'crude' humor (specifically siting comedians who talk about sex and ew gross their periods, which we all know is not at all a source for humor or even a need to basically understand) so pretty much, judging from the article, all women who make jokes, are crass and disgusting and only doing it to fit in with guys. Whereas men farting is fucking hilarious.

Response: Hitchens is stupid and one day, I hope to sit across from him and make him laugh so I can say "HAHAH MOTHER FUCKER YOU LAUGHED WITH A WOMAN YOU'RE SO WEAK." And Sellers is also a giant fucking moron. Dude, first of all, does it ever occur to men that women make jokes to appeal to...women? That we have a sense of humor that runs with each other? Plus, a fart joke is a fart joke is a fart joke. Sorry, it's the 21st century and the sad truth is out there: women are human beings, not figures carved out of ivory who only leave their pedestal to reproduce and clean the kitchen.

And, as my roommate said, "Who doesn't think flatulence is funny?"

two words: sarah silverman. she's fucking hilarious. i don't buy that female comedians that are offensive are just doing it to fit in with the men. hell, sarah silverman can blow a lot of the men out of the water when it comes to not being p.c. she's a hell of a lot funnier than her boyfriend.

Yeah, see, I actually don't like Sarah Silverman because I think she supports his theory. She focuses more on being gross than funny. Like just 'Let me tell you about my abortion'...people titter because they're uncomfortable. Very Lenny Bruce...he was another comedian whose humor was primarily about making people laugh out of discomfort.

Amy Sedaris is so kickass. I know way more men who watched Strangers With Candy then women. Not to mention, Tina Fey writes most of the scripts for her shows. And men somehow laugh at them. Amazing. miraculous.

I love, LOVE Amy Sedaris.

She is on the cover of the new issue of BUST. Her cussing out children on the phone makes me love her even more.

My favorite thing is in an excerpt in one of David's books, where him and Amy are riding the El in Chicago. He gets off the train and she screams really loud to him, "Good luck beating that rape charge!"

Agreed. I have a Playboy subscription and her article in there was just fantastic.

Some other women I find amusing:
- Diablo Cody
- Kathy Griffin
- Jennifer Saunders (omg I love AbFab)
- Rita Rudner
- Ellen DeGeneres

To name a few...

Edit -
Had to add Gilda Radner and Madeline Kahn. I love these women.

They were so young too.

I don't care for Amy Sedaris much either. Maybe I hate women too.

:-( Feminism is not just for women! Everyone should be a feminist.

Main Entry:
fem·i·nism Listen to the pronunciation of feminism
Pronunciation:
\ˈfe-mə-ˌni-zəm\
Function:
noun
Date:
1895

1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes

who doesn't support that?!

I dunno who Lisa Lampanelli is, though. Is she a comedian? You know, I give a lot of credit to Joan Rivers, too. She's a bitch but she's taken a lot of risks and crossed lines most men weren't willing to.

How about Dane Cook?
And affirmative action is a very nice term for racial discrimination against better-qualified white people in jobs, employment, promotions and scholarships, and college admittance.
