Re: Father hides and abuses daughter for 24 years

I think the three that have never left the basement are all under 8.

The older ones, with "normal lives", had been "dumped" by their mother. I wonder why she didn't make more noise or something. Surely she knew he was twisted and worried about her other children, or maybe she didn't know they was upstairs??
He had adopted the eldest tho...

Especially since they're teenagers. I mean with kids, sometimes they can sweep it under the carpet a bit in their minds, and not suffer the trauma of that for the duration of their lives. But when you've never stepped foot outside a basement for 17 years, how do you join in the world? This is seriously some sick shit and I have no idea how this could go unnoticed for so long.

I'm surprised he even brought one of them to the hospital...u'd think he'd just kill her off or ditch her off somewhere anonymously...I mean he took the trouble to hide them in a basement and make up stories for the others...why would he blow his cover like that?

Living their whole lives into adulthood...no sun...no education...no social contact besides with each other? yea those two will definately have problems. That seriously makes my heart hurt and my stomach ache. The youngest one might have a chance though...that one was 5 right?

So sickening that people like this exist.

Anyone else picturing a house out in the woods?

I don't think this could happen anywhere, but then I think of that kid who had lived with that Devlin guy for years.

That stockholm syndrome is no joke.

from the first post...so at least one of them was an adult. That's the Kerstin chick right? The one they brought to the hospital for being ill?

Yes,sorry. Kerstin was 19 and two young boys.

Just made more sense the oldest where free and the youngest not. It's all breaking news.

So it was definitely one of the kids from the basement that got sick? I was thinking maybe it was one of the other three, and then the police maybe questioned why they had kids that weren't theirs, and why they hadn't contacted the police when she handed over her kids. Or maybe there was an illness that was an immediate red flag as a result of a genetic defect or something.

I'm confused about the 19 year old. Some reports say she was kept in basement, others are saying they think not?

The two oldest children, aged 18 and 19, and the youngest aged 5, had been locked up with their mother since birth

Three of Elisabeth's younger children were each left on her parents' doorstep, the first accompanied by a letter saying she could not look after the baby herself.

Nope, in a normal town i think. Austria seems to have an excess of this type of crime.

yea isn't austria supposed to be huge on pedophilia and child exploitation? I thought I heard that in a Law and Order once...but I didn't know how much legitamacy to put into it.

There is two big cases i can think of in recent history in Austria. Three girls where locked away for years by their mentally ill mother and another girl held for 8 years by some guy and when she ran away he chucked himself under a train.

Eastern Europe in general has a problem with it. I actually have a friend who was abducted and raped and kept prisoner for three days in Prague. I couldn't make this shit up. She's all sorts of fucked up as a result.

It says she was kept in the basement and that she was brought to the hospital and is "gravely ill".

And thats the reason the whole year i lived there my Czech friends wouldn't let me walk Prague alone. It can be a scary place and some people just won't take no for an answer.
Sorry to hear about your friend bowie. it makes people scared to travel and thats never a good thing.

Well I have a feeling that Elisabeth was probably sedated several times throughout the years, and I doubt he hesitated to be violent if he felt necessary. Those girls were probably scared shitless.

Re: Father hides and abuses daughter for 24 years

The kids might not of made noise in fear of punishment. Also if they have been down there all their lives, they know nothing different. If they had no education or even seen outside they must have been pretty quite and withdrawn. Not playing and being like children, with their mother drugged up they had little chance of anyone out side noticing really.

Surely the others in the house must of noticed he was spending alot of time in the basement where i guess they was not to go?
