It was his dad's car according to abc news.

    [/quote]

I knew it was in his dad's name. I guess I thought it was the kid's car, though. I hadn't heard anything definite on that.

"It's just heartbreaking because they are my really close friends," Alainya Frauenshuh said. "They were stupid, that's all I can think about. I don't know what was going through their heads."

    Confirmed.

Man, reading his posts - it's just so eerie. He sounded like a really polite young guy but his misinformed confidence shines through in his posts. It wasn't that he was arrogant persay, but I bet he dismissed the cautionary posts as people simply using his age against him, and then this..... The whole thing is just really sad.

Sounds like they were pretty good kids. It's so tragic and I feel horrible for their families and friends. It's just such a stupid, preventable loss.

    Wow:

    Engines: 5.0L V10

Pricing Info: MSRP: $82,900 Invoice Price: $76,270

This same car, slightly modified, set the record for cross country US in 2006. The M5 is a bad MOFO. he made it from NY to CA in 32 Hours, 7 Minutes, setting a new record in his M5.

I can't seem to figure out how to embed youtube links, they show up blank. Check Alex Roy's M5 out and all the technology they used to get by the cops.

Apparently he also did not care about getting speeding tickets and driving on a suspended license. Kind of ruins the whole "good kid did a dumb thing" act for me.

I'd love to have an M5...but I can't see giving my kid a 85K BMW that can do close to 200MPH.

Yeah. The car had about 450 hundred too many horses for these foolish boys.

I used to drive my Impala way too fast but damn...

That's irresponsible as all hell and they should have thrown the book at him, but in his posts he doesn't come off as the most arrogant guy I've ever read about. He clearly had an addiction to speed and thrills which resulted in tragedy. I am angry at this kid for his sheer lack of common sense, but if more teenagers were given access to such powerful cars, we'd hear multiple similar stories. He was living dangerously and selfishly, but he wasn't necessarily a bad kid.

    That video: :2huh:

How did they even find the bodies?

I wonder if Travolta has anything to say about it. The parents will probably find a way to sue him.

jasons brother just bought the new M5. we rode in it last week and i must say that it's fucking scary fast.

i can not grasp the concept of this 18 year old behind the wheel of a 500 hp machine. who allows this to happen? ugh.

    so tragic. RIP, crazy boyz.

Who allows this? Parents who want to be "Liked" and "Cool".

I grew up 'upscale' and went to school with kids who got hot fast rides by their 16th birthday. Thankfully, my parents were from the Bronx and didn't lose their common sense on the way up the ladder. If they wanted, each of us could have had a pricey new ride, but they're point of view was that if their kids wanted a Benz or whatnot, they could grow up and earn it.

They also believed that teens were not the same as college aged kids and still needed boundaries. Unfortunately, at the root of some of these horrible stories are permissive parents.

Re: Dustin Dawe (19), James Hime (19), and 3 others were killed in a 160 mph cra

What the hell is wrong with the parents of this kid? Oh, he has less than 5 years experience driving a car and loves to speed, here's an extremely fast car. I mean, I don't think young kids should get a clunker, I think they should get a reliable, safe car that can, at the max, reach 120 mph and in order to even get it that fast, you need to be driving a straight line for over an hour.

Now, I hate to stereotype a young male driver, but usually (from my experience) they love to speed. It's like giving a crack addict a pound of that stuff and saying "now be careful." Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't exactly give my daughter an M5 either, but there's something about young teenage boys when they get behind the wheel of a car. Some like to speed for the sake of speeding and some just like to show off. Apparently endangering yourself is cool. In fact, just talking to an 18 year old co-worker last night, he just lost his license for a month due to his high amount of speeding tickets so of course I had to ask, why do you speed? Bc it's fun.

Depending on the maturity level of my kids, that's how I'll figure out what type of car I'll help them get. If they love to drive at crazy speeds to impress their friends, they're getting a bicycle.

The driver of the M5 posted on a BMW forum the same day of the accident here using the name AmericanM5.

    Here stated:

No 18 year old should be trusted with 500 HP.

That's ridiculous! This kid was extremely irresponsible and bang out of line but there is no need to say such a crass thing. If we want to talk semantics, how about the passengers? I suppose they had it coming for getting in the car in the first place? Do you have kids? I suppose they're angels? Much like you were as a teen yes?

Waaaiit a second... sure, perhaps some may think that's crass. Whatever. Point is, as you yourself stated - this kid did something bloody irresponsible, stupid, reckless, deadly. Yes, it's too damn bad they destroyed the car. It's also too bad the driver (or, who knows, the passengers who may have egged him on) didn't have the experience to be driving a car with that much under the hood. Too bad the car had to be destroyed at the hands of someone so lacking. WTF is a kid doing driving that damn car in the first place?? They didn't have it coming if they were just driving to the grocery store, no. But they were driving on the airstrip...maybe their last words were "let's see how fast it'll go"....ugh.

I agree LilDevil...get 'em a bicycle. Too much money, not enough supervision.

I don't think Lil Devil made any implication that the passengers deserved what they got. I think the passengers were victims of this stupid person.

You can defend him (the driver) all you want but he was reckless with his friends lives and they died for it. Yes that makes him a bad person. I know it is tough for some people to understand but sometimes the dead do deserve blame. You don't get out of the blame game just because you are dead.

Yeah Kevan, I agree that they shouldn't have been there and an 18 year old should never have had access to a M5. My point is, we've all done things we weren't proud of in hindsight. The parents and authorities are also to blame, this kid should have been severely repremanded for his previous offences.

Actually the poster showed more remorse for a hunk of metal which directly bypassed the fact that 4 passengers also died. A bad person? Did you know him? If not you would do well to be less judgmental. Then again, I guess you feel you can be because your shit doesn't stink either and you've been impeccably responsible at all times, your whole life through right? Yeah...sure.

And please, if you plan on addressing my posts again, do it minus the patronising, snippy tone - My opinion has nothing to do with my grasp of anything and it makes you come across as nothing more than a pompous ass.

    Edit: typo

Great, Good for you. Shame Josh couldn't be sitting on that pedestal next to you and saying the same. This is not the place for pettiness but I will say this - you were the one who brought up my post for being of a different mindset on this to you and I have not made one assumption about you. It is clear for anyone to see that A. You are judging the occupants of the M5 and B. You have a condescending tone - not assumptions, facts. Distinct difference.

Also, don't play that newbie card please, it's lame and predictable. 2 minutes on this board would be enough to ascertain the above. I couldn't give a rat's ass how long I've been here, treat me like a 5 yr old and you'll get treated in kind.

Just for the record I didn't play the noob card. I said you have not been around long enough to know ME < see that it says ME. I have not been posting much in last weeks and you just joined on the 8th so I know you have not seen many of my posts. Anyway if you want to continue to talk about how I suck you can take it to Random Thoughts. I am sure many there will talk with you. I might drop in in too. You never know
