On an unrelated note - anyone remember the guy's name who allegedly killed his father, tried to kill his mother but she stuck up for him in court?  I want to see how the trial is going.

I can't remember his name either. I remember watching a Dateline type show about that. As for this scumfuck, he had to be really fucked in the head to not only kill them, but everything else that he did.

Such a cold killer. And to think that he was going about his business like nothing at all happened. Why are there so many crazy things happening in the Bronx these days, anyway?

There's obviously something missing here.

No one just kills and chops up family members for no reason.  Now, overcooking the turkey at Thanksgiving, there's a reason...but it sounds like this guy was pretty disturbed and they give no reason for him even making threatening statements to his mother.

I would not be at all surprised if this person had a serious mental illness like schizophrenia and was experiencing delusions regarding his family...perhaps controlling or persecutory delusions.  I'll be very interested to see if this guy had past contact with the mental health system.

I found this article which mentions that he had told someone that his mom 'stressed him out...'

Bronx man has confessed to fatally shooting his mother and brother, chopping up their bodies and dumping the remains in the Harlem River, police said.

The chilly waters were searched yesterday - without luck - for Marlene Platt, 45, and her son, Nashan, 22.

The suspect, Lamar Platt, 24, was charged with second-degree murder, police said. Scuba divers will continue searching for the bodies this morning.

Platt made his confession yesterday afternoon, sometime after officers forced their way into the Platt home on University Avenue in Morris Heights and found blood, but no bodies.

The suspect was found nearby and admitted to killing his brother and mother, then carrying their body parts in a shopping cart to nearby Roberto Clemente State Park, where he dumped the remains, police said. The motive was unclear. Police last night removed 30 bags of evidence, including a shopping cart they believe was used in the crime.

Police believe the killings may have happened as long as a week ago.

Platt's grandmother, Eleveta Wright, last spoke to Marlene on Nov. 18. Concerned when she couldn't reach her, Wright called police from her home near Washington, D.C. The Platts' neighbors said police on Saturday asked if anyone had seen the family.

Yesterday, police said, Wright traveled to the city and called police again, prompting the response by Emergency Services.

Neighbors said the suspect had attended Bronx Community College and had two jobs - one as a children's tutor, the other in a nearby barbershop.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified said Lamar recently told him, "My mom stresses me out." Still, Lamar was "calm and quiet. He never showed that side," the neighbor said, adding his mother was kind, encouraging him to keep his head up when he immigrated two months ago from St. Thomas and had trouble finding work.

Neighbors said Lamar's mother worked as a nurse's aide.

Lamar Platt’s father has been living in Jamaica for quite some time and Lamar’s mother was chopped into pieces and thrown into the Harlem river on the 18th of November, 2007.

Yes, that’s right, 45-year-old Marlene M. Platt, a nurse’s aide who raised Lamar Platt and his brother by herself was shot, killed, butchered and transported in garbage bags via stolen shopping cart to the Harlem river, where her remains were dumped like an unwanted sofa.

22-year-old Nashan Platt’s remains were treated the same way.

And yes, Lamar Platt did it. He even admitted it.

It took a while, though.

About a week.

A week after Lamar Platt killed his mother and brother, his grandmother, 63-year-old Elveda Wright flew into town and confronted Lamar on the 25th of November. Knowing that Lamar had threatened his mother on a number of occasions, and that he had been growing increasingly violent lately, she felt that something was wrong.

So when she caught up to Lamar, she asked him why nobody was answering the phone when she called.

She asked him to give her the key to the apartment, so she could check up on her daughter.

Lamar, not being a stupid man, refused, of course.

After all, if she went inside, she might see all the blood and gore coating the walls. She might see the machete and serrated knife that he had used to cut up his mother and brother into pieces small enough to put into garbage bags. She might see some sign that he had taken six trips down to the street to fill up a shopping cart with the garbage bags full of his relatives. She might realize that it had taken six trips to the river to dispose of her daughter and grandson.

She might be a little upset if she found that out, so I’m sure he said something to the effect of, “No, grandmother. You may not come into the apartment.”

So Elveda Wright called 911.

The cops showed up to see what the fuss was all about and had just started their walkaround at about five in the afternoon when Lamar Platt showed up after a hard day’s work at the barber shop.

The police asked some uncomfortable questions, Lamar had no satisfactory answers, and, in the end, a window was used by the authorities to gain entry into what was described as “a slaughterhouse.”

Despite admitting what he did to detectives, Lamar Platt has entered a plea of not-guilty.
