    Right?! It's a good one

There's a huge debate about who the woman is that played "Leah" in the video. There's been many guesses and much debate. She looks a lot like Dian Parkinson from the Price is Right and some say Joanna Lumley, but I think both are wrong. I can't remember her name, I'll have to look it up, but it was a little known actress at the time IMHO.

ETA: Barbra Crampton. That's my guess. Although it's never been confirmed.

I was reminded of the Rebecca Shaeffer case today with a YouTube creator which then reminded me of this song. I always felt like this song was literally written for Bardo because it nails his POV so directly. However it was written a decade before he killed her. Still, if you listen to the lyrics knowing that case is creepy AF since it's so dead on.

Anyway, I'm seriously bummed that Genesis is now a thing of the past. It's part of my trilogy of Rush, Genesis and Yes being my all time favorite bands and they hold a lot of amazing memories and concerts in my mind. Retiring is much harder on Phil than anyone at the end of the day. I still always dreamed that the original lineup would tour Lamb Lies Down though. Never to be.

Anyway, a song that many didn't realize was about a creep that was obsessed by someone on TV because he always "Turned it on Again".

This was my go-to song after a break up back in the day. Im not a huge Christina Aguilara fan but her voice is amazing in this song. I think it could be a metaphor for a relationship or any type of addiction. Its kind of a debbie downer song, but everyone can relate. I dont know why I started listening to it again, but I am. Its a great belt-it-out in the shower song.

I freaking LOVE her voice. I admit, I always bought her CD's (omg, CDs!)

Been listening to this song a lot lately. Makes me sad, this song was from 30 years ago and yet not a damn thing has changed.

I see no changes, wake up in the morning, and I ask myself
Is life worth living, should I blast myself?
I'm tired of bein' poor, and even worse I'm black
My stomach hurts, so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch

Cops give a damn about a negro
Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares
One less hungry mouth on the welfare

First, ship 'em dope and let 'em deal the brothers
Give 'em guns, step back, watch 'em kill each other
It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said
Two shots in the dark, now Huey's dead

I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere
Unless we share with each other
    We gotta start makin' changes
Learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers

And that's how it's supposed to be
How can the devil take a brother, if he's close to me?
I'd love to go back to when we played as kids
But things changed, and that's the way it is

I see no changes, all I see is racist faces
Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under, I wonder what it takes to make this
One better place, let's erase the wasted

Take the evil out the people, they'll be acting right
'Cause both black and white is smokin' crack tonight
And only time we chill is when we kill each other
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other

And although it seems heaven sent
We ain't ready, to see a black President
It ain't a secret, don't conceal the fact
The penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks

But some things will never change
Try to show another way but you stayin' in the dope game
Now tell me, what's a mother to do?
Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you

You gotta operate the easy way
(I made a G today) But you made it in a sleazy way
Sellin' crack to the kid (I gotta get paid)
Well, hey, well, that's the way it is

    We gotta make a change
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes
Let's change the way we eat
Let's change the way we live
And let's change the way we treat each other
You see, the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
What we gotta do, to survive

And still I see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace?
There's war in the streets and war in the Middle East
Instead of war on poverty, they got a war on drugs
So the police can bother me

    And I ain't never did a crime, I ain't have to do
But now, I'm back with the facts givin' 'em back to you
Don't let 'em jack you up, back you up
Crack you up and pimps smack you up

You gotta learn to hold ya own
They get jealous when they see ya, with ya mobile phone
But tell the cops, they can't touch this
I don't trust this, when they try to rush, I bust this

That's the sound of my tool, you say it ain't cool?
But mama didn't raise no fool
And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped
And I never get to lay back
'Cause I always got to worry 'bout the pay backs
Some buck that I roughed up way back
Comin' back after all these years
Rat-a-tat, tat, tat, tat, that's the way it is

Getting ready to drive the Hubby to the airport. It's going to be a lonely two and a half weeks without him here. Especially with everything to get done before I leave.

    Safe travels to my love.

He changed the music industry for all artists by fighting the record companies and winning. Super intelligent and interesting guy that always had a laid back energy. Which is why I think people easily dismiss him.

Honestly. I know your Hubby is a Prog Rock freak like me so it's difficult to convince us that music other than what those kinds of groups play is actually challenging and complicated. Only when I was forced to sit down and emulate it did I see everything that went in to TP.

Next, tell him to sit down and REALLY LISTEN to Hall & Oates. I had to learn a few of their tunes and it drove me out of my skull. Some of the most complicated music I've ever had to learn and the same. I dismissed them as just another 70s/80s band that only wanted to hit top 40. He will be blown away.

And now I'm going to listen to this and clean

ETA: Mainly have him listen to the electric piano. There are chords in there that I've never heard of much less play. And no two chords seem to be alike. Crazy stuff.

As a life-long Petty fan, I cannot fathom someone not liking him. Well, after 21+ years of marriage my husband revealed he 'wasn't into him'. WTF??
