Drew Peterson found guilty of murdering 3rd wife - wife #4 still missing

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (AP) -- The death of the third wife of a police sergeant whose new spouse has been missing for more than a week should have been ruled "undetermined," a county coroner said on Wednesday.

No charges were filed after a coroner's jury ruled as accidental the death of Drew Peterson's former wife, Kathleen Savio, whose body was found in a bathtub in March 2004. Savio's death is being reviewed since Peterson's current wife, Stacy, went missing Oct. 29.

"Certain aspects of Kathleen Savio's death raised concerns for me, as well," Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said. "At the very least, her death should have been ruled 'undetermined."'

At the 2004 inquest, authorities said Savio, 40, drowned, even though there was no water in the bathtub when she was found. Investigators theorized that the water must have drained out.

Savio had gotten an order of protection in 2002, alleging a pattern of physical abuse and threats, according to court records. Drew Peterson has denied involvement with his ex-wife's death.

On Wednesday, searchers looked for Stacy Peterson, 23. Illinois State Police say her disappearance is being investigated as a missing persons case.

Drew Peterson visited the Will County courthouse complex in Joliet for about two hours Wednesday.

"This is an ongoing investigation," his attorney Fred Morelli told the Chicago Sun-Times. "We have nothing to say."

Drew Peterson, 53, a sergeant in the Bolingbrook Police Department, has said his wife phoned him and told him she had left for another man. Her family has said she feared her husband, was making plans to divorce him and would not have willingly left her children.

Her relatives were on the Today show yesterday (i think it was yesterday). They said they don't really have high hopes that she will be found alive. Sooo sad.
And am I correct in reading that she was 23 and he was 53?? that in itself is messed up.

And even creepier, they named their little daughter, Lacey  :-o

I think this case smells, and smells strong.  Only because he's a fucking cop is he getting away with all of this.  She's only 23 (or was, I hate to say that), long life ahead of her, and a pig who can't take rejection kills her.  I hope I have to eat my words later, but this cop smells like rotten bacon to me.

This has been all over the news here for days, and there's extensive background reading you could find from any of the Chicago news outlets. But yes, the age difference is correct. And, from everything I have read, he started dating here when she was SEVENTEEN!

Here is a link to an article with a slide show, and you can see all of the people involved.

(IMO, there is nothing about this guy that would be appealing to a 17-year-old, let alone anyone his own age.)

Unfortunately, it's not looking good for Stacy.

Re: With 4th Wife Missing, Death Of Police Officer's 3rd Wife Under New Scrutiny

Very strange. If he did kill the 3rd wife, I wonder how they missed it. If someone drowned another person in the bath tub, I would think that there would be bruises all over her arms from fighting back and hitting the side of the tub. Also, if she had a restraining order against him, why would she be in her tub with him in the house. If he broke in when she was in the tub, then I would expect a fight, and there would be signs of that.

I can see it where someone would faint if they got in a tub that was too hot, I've fainted in a shower before due to the heat.

Also, I am not saying this guy is innocent, I'm just saying we shouldn't lynch him just yet, until they get some real evidence together. If he did kill her, and did something to his current GF, then roast him, but lets see where the investigation leads.

This guy could have gotten away with murder if he hadn't gotten greedy and decided to off wife number four.

**Wife #3 had many abrasions, some old, some new.  She also had a gash on her head, and her hair was matted down with blood.  I can't remember who, but on Greta's On The Record program tonight, someone also said that her hair wasn't tied up like she usually did when she took a bath.  I don't know about any of you ladies, but it's habit for me to do that before a bath.**

When Susan Savio got the news that her sister had drowned in her bathtub, she immediately wanted to know one thing: Did Drew Peterson kill her?

Kathleen Savio had told family "that if she would die, it may look like an accident, but it wasn't," Susan Savio said in a newly released transcript from a coroner's inquest into the death of Kathleen Savio, Peterson's third wife, who died in 2004 after they divorced.

    [RICH HEIN SUN-TIMES]
    http://www.suntimes.com/642977,CST-NWS-boling09.article

"She was terrified of that -- [of] him and him threatening her," Susan Savio said.

The documents were released Thursday as Will County officials considered exhuming Kathleen Savio's body. Her unusual death is getting a second look as teams search for Peterson's current wife, Stacy, missing since Oct. 28.

Savio's relatives say Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow told them Thursday he had decided to exhume the body. The prosecutor's office could not be reached to confirm that.

"We want this to be very private," said Melissa Doman, Kathleen Savio's niece. "We had to bury her once, and we don't want a media circus."

Thursday evening, Drew Peterson was seen outside the Bolingbrook home he shared with Stacy Peterson, barking to reporters, "The media is terrorizing my kids."
    'Deathly afraid'
In 2004, a six-person coroner's jury -- agreeing with the pathologist who did the autopsy -- concluded the 40-year-old Savio's death was an accidental drowning.

But Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said this week that certain "aspects" of Savio's death raise concerns and that it should have been ruled, at the very least, "undetermined," but he was bound by the jury's ruling.

Savio's relatives have said in recent days that she was "deathly afraid" of her ex-husband. Susan Savio voiced those fears in her testimony during the 2004 inquest.

"He did many, many things to her. He wished only for her to go away."

Savio's body was found in an empty bathtub in her Bolingbrook home. She had no drugs in her system. Savio had a laceration on the back of her head that the pathologist speculated may have been caused by a fall. Her hair was "soaked with blood," he wrote in his report.

In the inquest transcripts, a State Police special agent testified there were no signs of foul play. Special Agent Herbert B. Hardy said Savio's hair was wet and there was a small amount of blood in the tub from the wound at the back of her head. Hardy said investigators concluded the cut came from a fall in the tub.

Drew Peterson was interviewed in the wake of his ex-wife's death, Hardy testified, and nothing Peterson did or said aroused suspicions.

In an interview last week, Drew Peterson criticized Will County authorities for taking another look at Savio's death, insisting it was clear she died from an accidental fall. Though the tub was empty when her body was found, he said State Police conducted tests and determined the plug sealing the tub drain leaked, allowing the tub to empty.

"She just had an accident," he said during the Nov. 1 interview. He and Savio already had finalized their divorce and were moving on with their lives at the time of her death, Peterson said.

Drew Peterson was returning the couple's two sons when her body was found. The house was locked, so he asked a neighbor for help and waited for a locksmith.

The neighbor went in first, Peterson said.

"I didn't want any trouble," he said. "I stood outside, then I heard screaming and went in."

I've been away from my computer since I made the last post, and today I was reading in the LA Times about alot of the things Hellbettie said after I posted. I don't like to rush to judgment on stuff, especially when it involves someones life, but I agree that this looks really suspicous. All of the AP articles didn't have nearly the detail, about abraisions, blood spatters, and her being face down in the tub. From reading their articles, I was picturing someone laying in the tub, and slid down a bit so the head would be underwater. Totally off =P. After reading about the particulars, it really looks like this guy is one dirty s.o.b.

See, my problem with her supposedly drowning in the tub, besides it being empty when she was found...is that her toxicology report came back clean.  Now, if you slip under, or even knock your head, I'd think that you'd choke, cough and sputter, which would wake you up.  That is unless you're being forced under the water.

There was an article in People magazine that ended with her sister saying, "I'd like to believe she's coming back, but I'm 100% sure she's dead." Sad.

Her sister is running the myspace page that was posted earlier in the thread.  There's some beautiful pictures on the site that she uploaded.  Equ search is working with the family now, taking tomorrow off.  They're still organizing friends and volunteers for a search tomorrow.  She keeps things updated through bulletins as well.  I feel SO bad for her sister, and the rest of her family.  It seems her sister and her are very close, and I wouldn't be surprised if she feels by instinct that Stacy is gone.  Heartbreaking.

I know this is a far stretch, BUT, it's possible she fell asleep and somehow incorporated the feeling of suffocation in her dream. I've had that happen once before, and thankfully, my cat woke me up before anything actually happened. But I suppose it's plausible.

There is a lot of good info on the true crime weblog about this case. I find it interesting that Stacy's mother disappeared around the time that Stacy met this guy. There is a lot of reading including the comments but good info:

I was watching some crime show last night on TV and they had the 3rd wife's nephew on there.

He was saying that Drew Peterson used to go to her house before he was divorced and take Stacy with him.  It used to rile Kathleen (sp?) up and once she started screaming at Stacy to get out.  Stacy filmed the whole thing and then Drew called the police and said that Kathleen attacked Stacy.  This is while the whole thing was documented on film and quite obviously proved that no physical attack happened.

And now Drew's best friend is saying that he isn't sure of Drew's truthfullness anymore.  All unravelling before his eyes!

    I did see that!!!
I hope that this all gets straightened out-I just keep thinking about a recent article that I read that mentioned a possible serial killer in the area. One of the other names brought up in that one was Nailah Franklin.

I heard yesterday that the 3rd wife was certainly a homicide.
...also, I do not believe she would leave her kids with this guy if she planned on leaving. If she didn't want to take them with her, she would have left them with a trusted family member. The whole thing stinks.
