Genesee County NY Sheriff SGT dies after incident

    https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/ro...-batavia-downs

"Two people are facing charges in connection with an incident that police say led to the line-of-duty death of a Genesee County sheriff's sergeant early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, 54, was posted to a special assignment detail at Batavia Downs when he died during a fight with a patron, according to authorities. Batavia police say the 32-year veteran of the force was escorting a pair of patrons out of the casino after a verbal confrontation when they became combative.

Sanfratello was able to arrest Lyndsey Jean Wilcox, 39, of Batavia, after a struggle when investigators say he was then attacked by Michael Elmore, 33, also of Batavia. The sergeant attempted to use a taser on Elmore, but investigators say it didn't subdue him. During the fight, they say the sergeant became unresponsive and was pronounced dead."

I'll update w/ newer info once it's made available.

I know who this guy is. I'm a Genesee County native, and have been at Batavia Downs many, many times. His wife, I believe, went to my high school and graduated a few years behind me - I think.

But Tom was very active in the community and by all accounts an all around good guy. He leaves behind a 9 year old daughter who is friends with the daughter of someone I know.

I'm still not able to find out exactly what happened but oddly enough we ended up in that area Sunday morning to pick something up. We've been there for the races many times and have never seen an issue. It sounds like an ejection got out of control and it ended in an unnecessary tragedy. I hope they are held fully accountable.

It is such a sad situation overall. I feel horrible for his wife, daughter and family/friends.

It just is so needless, he was escorting them out and they became combative. It's heart breaking.

Apparently the suspect attacked Sgt. Sanfratello with chains. Talk about brutal. This scumbag needs the max sentence.

That's exactly what he did. He's got a pretty long sheet, too, so he was trouble to begin with. Fucking prick deprived a 9-year-old girl of her dad.

Poor guy doing his job. His poor daughter.

Because of cases like this I said I would never marry a police officer, I would worry every day he would not come home safe.

I'm not always an 'eye for an eye' kind of person but in this case I 100% am. Throw the book at him, throw the whole damn library at him then beat his ass with those same chains.
What an effing piece of crap he is.
