olice are searching for Graham Connell, 64, who left his home in Morley by car around 3.45pm on Monday and headed to Woodlesford Locks in Leeds for a run with his dog.

He was reported missing at 7.35pm that evening when he failed to return home.

Maddy, his family's sandy-coloured Goldendoodle, was recovered from the river near to Wyke Beck on Wednesday morning, her identity confirmed by microchip.

Police have also found his abandoned car, a grey Mercedes GLE 400, on Bullough Lane near the entrance to the locks.

Police search specialists, including underwater search officers, are continuing to search the area around Woodlesford Lock, where Graham regularly runs, and are continuing to appeal for any sightings that could assist the investigation.

He was wearing a fluorescent yellow running top, black leggings and red trainers.

His normal running route is alongside the Aire & Calder Navigation and River Aire up to Skelton Grange Road around Skelton Lake/Skelton Country Park and down to the bottom of St Aidan's Nature Reserve.

How tragic about Maddy. I wonder if Maddy fell into the water and he tried to safe her only to drown himself? Terribly sad all around.

I thought the same thing. Or the dog jumped in after him.

Both of these scenarios seem very likely. What a sad situation. Poor Maddy
